All other destinations have been free for the trial phase of the service using beta software. The plan is to commence charging for these destinations within the next two weeks and this will be advised before being switched on.
Is that mean right now you ring any number anywhere in the world is totally free?

I've downloaded all the sofware for babble but every time I try to open it up it says "unable to register with the babble network, please check your network connection and try again later"

does anyone else have this problem. I've no idea what to do.

Try going to Account Add account if you havent already, your babble user name should be the same as your babble account name "whateveraccountnameis"@babble.net if you have account set up just edit it and select use account......

As far as I can make out (follow the Comp -> Nets/Comms -> Nets/Comms thread this one should be locked) it's free until December. Thereafter you'll have to register/subscribe but even then it's only about €35/€40 for the year for unlimited landline calls to Ireland, UK, US, Oz and NZ - less than 2 months line rental to Eircom. How do they make their money? I'd imagine you'll be assigned an international number (so people can dial your PC) which they charge to the hilt so people calling you will pay top dollar or the charge is split between you and the caller. Dunno. Wait till next month and see I guess.

For now I believe it's just publicity that they're allowing absolutely free access (wrt outbound calls). Understandibly their servers must be choked downloading the client and registering accounts.

For those of us fortunate enough to be in cable broadband areas it means we can really ditch Eircom or at least consider it.

    Roll on the voice/radio/tv/cinema/fatherted-over-IP revolution.

I'm using netsource SOHO, and tbh the quality of the service isn't great I've found. There seems to be an echo on every call (I'm using a headset). I've asked friends to try it and they have also found the same.
The quality on skype seems to be far better.

But I suppose it is free (for now), which is always a plus!

This sounds great, but its taking forever to register. Everyone trying to get in there before they start charging for calls ;)

    Free stuff rocks.

Babble Support say that some server and IP upgrades are taking place tonight which will bring up more capacity. Hence better download speeds and also better call quality...

I used to have echo also on my headset but migrated to a cyberphone which has cured the problem.
