FTPing speeds

i am getting speeds of 600kBs between xbox and pc and would like to get what most get ie 5-10 mBs i have a usb belkin nic belkin router and using flash fxp there is no change using a crossover cable and direct to xbox has anyone any ideas what might improve this speed cheers
