Would say it's quite easy to get banned. I don't know how someone becomes a moderator, and I'm sure 90% of them are fine, but there are a few very odd ones knocking around with a sort of Principal Skinner attitude where you can get lashed with a ban if your post doesn't fall within the grey-beige spectrum.

Being abusive for the sake of it obviously deserves a ban, but I wouldn't condone banning someone just because they have different opinions than me, regardless of how repugnent I found them to be.

Sometimes the aul bank balance isn't what it should be, so a ban may be handed out to a n00b, or a zero poster if we can get away with it without the Admin lads seeing it wasn't a warranted ban.

You can't just beg for hookers like that. Just trawl the forums randomly and unfairly banning and infracting lowly users. You get a hooker bonus for each one. That bonus is doubled for each Feedback thread in which you deride the OP's intelligence through the medium of cat pictures.

Couldn't believe it. Got a message saying I was banned for a week, told the mod not to bother un-banning me, as it was ridiculous what I was banned for.

Judging by the number of people being banned from PI, looks like the moderator is a bit heavy handed with people. Maybe they should remove that moderator and give it to someone else.

Never ban a zero poster, the admins will find out. It's way to easy to track. Instead just hack an existing users account. If you're really stuck for money hack the account and post a load of spam all over the site. I did this a couple of months ago and I bought a new hdtv with the bonus.

Alternatively you can read the charter and have the sense to realise that PI is for those genuine things that maybe the OP's don't want light hearted comments about.

It's actually easier to operate withing the ruleset of any of the forums that moan about them.

the only way to get extra coke is to make it to Admin status......they control the supply lines.

Yes, all mods work for Boards.ie Ltd, we are all on the payroll, so to speak.

Some of us do other jobs, some choose not to.

There are different levels of mods.

Normal Mods - the likes of me. We can only ban from the forums listed under our names

CMods - Category Mods - see the menu at the top of your screen, each of these headings is a Category, there are certain mods who moderate every forum under that category. AMods - Adverts.ie Mods. They moderate the adverts.ie website. Which is a subsidiary of Boards.ie.

SMods - SuperMods. They can ban from every category, or forum. One at a time, or all together. being banned form every forum at the same time is called a Site Ban


Now, as to what Mods actually do.

We are janitors of the forum.

We clean up Spam posts (posts posted by advertisers, usually links to naked People or Viagra Sales etc etc)

We make sure there are no disruptive posters on the forums we moderate.

Some of us may choose to try and foster a community on the forums we moderate.

We oppress normal, non-mod users.

Banned from PI yesterday for addressing a point which was related to the thread but slightly off topic. Thread about proposing to a girlfriend where some idiot posted about conflict diamonds so in an effort to not discourage the OP from buying a diamond engagement ring I addressed his point. Interestingly the original misinformed idiot wasnt banned nor were the people who continued to post OT after...I think they're just a bit selective on who they ban... but anyway its only a week and i hardly ever post there anyway!

Well it's fairly straightforward in regards to bannings. Post constructive on topic comments and you are fine, post crap or off topic and you will be banned. It still amazes me how many people are too stupid to work that out though.

Was chucked out of the Spell Nazis for not being Nazi enough. The forum was just starting and everyone was getting their feet. I was attacked over writing Do instead of Does (or something to that effect) and ended up in an argument with the mod, which of course I couldn't win.
Glad to be gone, the "better than you" attitude in the beginning was pretty nasty, I hope it has calmed down now.
