Nirvana - With the lights out

this is excellent for big fans, really the ultimate collection of Nirvana stuff
the quality on some tracks ain't great, yet on other rare recorded stuff is very good
some of the tracks are pretty cool, although i heard a lot of them before from the internet (audiogalaxy..;).. )
it covers almost everything they played as well which is great
i haven't watched the DVD properly yet so i cant really say much about that

i got this as well for christmas:
    Anthrax - Moshers 1986 - 1991

this is pretty cool but similar to The Collection.

    I got two today
    Obituary-World demise
    Amon amarth-Fate of Norns
    Fun fun fun!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

Nightwish are by far the best goth metal band out at the moment. The best album is by far this years Once, which blows all their other stuff away. Next best is Century Child, followed by Wishmaster and Oceanborn and their weakest is the Angels Fall First Ep. Get the End of Innocence DVD to truly appreciate the music.
Within Temptation started the same year as Nightwish, both bands were unknown to each other but, however similar they sound with regards to the epic nature of the music, the two bands have completely different singers. Tarja Turunen of Nightwish being a classically trained opera singer and Sharon den Adel sounds a bit like Kate Bush. The best WT album is the latest The Silent Force which is a bit heavier and darker than Mother Earth, but like Mother Earth it lacks Roberts death grunt vocals, which he used in the first two albums Enter and The Dance.
There, enough info on both bands for y'all

Are Manowar actually good or are they just funny?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Both. They're cheesy power/hair metal (all the funnier because they take it VERY seriously, going as far as signing their contracts in their own blood), but they're also very, very skilled musicians. Well worth a listen, at least. I think their website might have soundbites to download if you're interested...

Finally got round to picking up Leviathan by Mastodon today. Good stuff (and I love the white whale drawing on the front of the booklet, Moby Dick is a favourite of mine). Haven't checked out the dvd with it yet though.

It isn't really a DVD, its more of an album with DVD sound. I thought it was a video myself when I bought it.
