Speaking of Microdisney and things Irish, how about 'A Fierce Pancake' by Stump? Though the 'Quark Out' EP was a wee bit better...

There are several albams I would consider classic,

    Nirvana - NeverMind
    Pink Foyld - The Wall
Jeff Wayne - War of the Worlds
    Queen - Greatest Hits 1/2/3
    Chemical Brothers - surrender
REM - Automatic for the people
    REM - Out of time
    Blur - 13
    Metallica - black(Metallica)

Loads more. Well worth the download or if you like me you would have bought the CD's

I can't stand all this 'everything else is $hite' line, so far everything posted is undoubltedly with merit!! Mr. Socko has really stirred the $hit here, no UT versus Q3, this is the knives out kinda stuff.

For what it's worth (and that's not worth a lot) I have to include:

Piper at the gates of dawn (Pink Floyd)
    Led Zep 3
    Irish tour (Rory Gallagher)
    Any Undertones album
    Meddle/Atom Heart Mother (Pink Floyd)
    Beach Samba (Astrud Gilberto)
3 Feet High And Rising (De La Soul)
Press The Eject And Give Me The Tape (Bauhaus)
    4AD (Bauhaus)
Anythng by Stump or Half Man Half Biscuit
    Speak English Or Die (SOD)
    Tursday Afternoon (Brian Eno)
It'll End In Tears (This Mortal Coil)
Garlands/The Moon and The Melodies (Cocteau Twins)
    Blue Lines (Massive Attack)
    Maxinquaye (Tricky)
Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star (Sonic Youth)
Mouth by Mouth (His Name Is Alive)
    Moon Safari (Air)

    And Looooads of other stuff.

Best album of the last 2000 years????
Scares me that Pink Floyd keep appearing...

    hey slosh
isn't the point of one of these boards that you do NOT keep you opinion to yourself.
anyway, not like i mean anything by it. i'd hate you to think me a peewee or daa or something.
so heres some ammo that you can rip me to bits with

    velvet underground - loaded
miles davis - kind of blue
    lou reed - transformer/new york
marvin gaye - what's goin on
iggy pop - lust for life
the smiths - the queen is dead
    r.e.m. - lifes rich pageant
beethoven - ninth symphony (leonard bernstien recording)
    holst - the planets
    tricky - maxinquaye
    suede - dog man star
van morrison - astral weeks (yeah i know this is a real q magazine favourite, but just listen to it)
    nirvana - nevermind
    tindersticks - second album
    the pixies - doolittle
nick drake - every album he ever recorded (5 i think)

theres probably a lot more but am not going to go into my room to look.

if i had to pick one album form this year it would be...
the auteurs - how i learned to love the boot boys.

    just thinkin'
there aren't many irish albums here
    so...
any album with luke kelly singing "raglan road"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,438 ✭✭✭TwoShedsJackson

I have yet to understand what part of 'the best album of the last 2000 years' people dont understand.

THE best means one album, one. List one album. Thats one album, which you beleive to be the best of the last 2000 years. We dont want the whole fu<king list.

btw, The Beatles were fu<king $hite.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 345 ✭✭harVee

yeah but it's soooooooo hard to decide...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

oooh can i be lame and list out all my albums so that maybe someone will congragulate me on my great taste?
no i dont think i will.
    haha

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 Chim Chim

Why are people writing down lists when Mr. Socko wrote best ALBUM!!!!

The answer to his question is NEVERMIND by Nirvana. There are no other contenders.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 345 ✭✭harVee

FFS, it's only a dumb poll. on a little bulliten board in a little insignifigent country.
nobody's gonna get hurt if someone can't decide whether they prefer Dark Side of The Moon to The Wall.
How many people have heard even the tiniest fraction of the number of albums that have been released in the last year not to mind the last 2000 (well one hundred really). so to say with authority that
The answer to his question is NEVERMIND by Nirvana. There are no other contenders.
is really a bit of a stab in the dark isn't it.
just relax and write down an album.
    or two.

    Kali, I feel so ashamed.
I will of course commit myself to death by egg-whisk. . . .

Methinks the message is clear, there is no best album. Just be glad there were so many good ones.
