Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, I have come back from a few months in the Canaries, and am ****ing stunned to see that there is nothing here!!!

Every agency that I have gone to, has told me that the market for family pcs, has saturated!! I knew it would of happened, but now? What will I do? I have no job now, and need somethin quick! Where is there to go?
I know there is still alever growing market for server systems like the Ibm As/400 and the Rs/6000 etc... But I dont wanna go down that road again! Where is for me?

Do a small course in Networking...
Then either join a Tech support team or join a Networking firm

P.S. Plz don't be so single mided to think that Sell/building PCs is the only job for u... Be Mobile.... Be able to adapt to a different type of job. I seriously dought u grew up dreaming of being a computer slaeperson or a PC labourer(also done by 8 yr olds in Indonesia).
And for ****s sake don't mop about complaining about a Tech crash when all thats gone is along over due industry better suited to the 3rd world....

Well, he appears to be an unreconstructed sexist, racist gobsheen with a distinct interest in illegal drugs and internet porn - but thats only based on what I've read of his posts.

You didn't send me an email on it...

    ---

I think you are really missing an important point here Victor: a hell of a lot of us know each other in real life as well as on the boards (and Cian (buzz) is sound as they come). I think you're going to keep getting flamed until you start to realise that and act more accordingly (i.e. respectfully) towards the boards.ie users...

Anyway, I'm interested in hearing Shanes reaction to your email... smile.gif

You should do the MCSE exams and the Cisco ICND course. I presume you were a Network Admin in IBM? (Can you get your old job back?)

This topic frightens me. I know its here in after hours, but there is a pretty serious tone.

I am being laid off soon and had been hoping that a call centre job was a last option, but my gowd..are things this bad?..am seriously thinking of taking the redundancy money and moving somewhere else.

I haven't had to look for work for the last three years and up until recently i thought it was just a matter of progressing to a non call centre type vocation(even it that meant a salary cut), but is that a distant dream in the current market?

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I think we`re all in a spot of trouble now!
Wtf is gonna happen to us now in the industry?
and how badly will it effect us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,413 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

Why not go to "real" college (ie IT or uni) for a while. If you're already a grad go post grad. That's what I intend to do if my job goes (but if my job goes things are really fucked afaics :)) Or if you've a grand or 2 saved go on a travel trip somewhere (not the US :)).

The major IT sector companies will cut HR, services, sales and marketing before they will go near the engineers if at all possible. Now that is not always going to be the case where they shut down an entire facility or building, but if they're going by headcount alone engineers are going to be the last to go.

Otherwise theres loads of ways to get programming experience with open source projects, just fscking round with linux and doing some sh!t like that.

Yeah it's bad, you just gotta find the upside and hope for the best.

And remember, when companies start to hire again in a year or 2, it will be just as hard to hire people as last year ... so screw them in the compensation part of the interview...

    My 2/100 of a euro...
