Don't even know if thats a word LOL

Just wondering how much cars devalue (in price!) each year on average! I am buying a car in January and was thinking of the new shape megane (2003 and up) just wondering if they will go down much in price in the new year?

    Cheers!!

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Depends totally on car, year, etc. To get a good idea of depreciation, check new car prices on a site like cbg.ie and compare this to the same cars second hand in the classified section. E.g. a new Megane 1.4 is €20k, a one year old one is €16k*

*figures made up - check for yourself!

The rule of tumb usually is that "the bigger they are, the harder they fall".
This certainly hold true with the likes of a Lexus LS400. Best part of €100K new but a '93 one nowadays could be bought for €4K!
    Smaller cars depreciate the least.

So how much do you reckon a megane would depreciate? its neither bigger nor small ;)

Depends on model, engine type/engine size, number of doors, goodie list, even colour has a bearing.

    Try www.carzone.ie

Choose your car and bang, itll list used cars of that type sorted by year, so its easy to see how they devalue. Usefull tool for figuring out what you should be spending on a second hand car.
