Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bladerunner (or other films): what parts of movies you love do you wish were removed?

    Bladerunner is one of my favorite movies.

    The ambience, script, weirdness and slightly touching storyline really appeal to me.

    But there is one scene in the movie which I kind of wish wasn't in the movie:

    Dekard is in his bedroom with a photograph. His magic computer is somehow able to see things which aren't in the photo or are hidden behind certain objects.

    There was no need for this. Otherwise it's a brillian movie.

    Do you have any favorite movies with scenes which make you wince everytime you see them?

    Magnolia. Really dislike the part when all the characters start singing the same song. I find it very cheesy, and not really in keeping with the rest of the film

    The mummy returns last night..........

    All the bits between the opening and closing credits could have been cut.

    Not my favourite movie or anything, just saw it at the weekend - 'The Last Samurai' would have been much better if Tom Cruise had died.. especially seeing as he was riddled with automatic machine gun fire.

    Off the top of my head, here are a few suggestions....

    Bladerunner: The closing 60 seconds and kubrick ripoff.

    Star Wars-The Phantom Menace: Everything after the opening text scroll.

    Blade II: All the dodgy 'leaping around' CGI that was used.. loose it.

    Terminator 3: Any of the scenes with Nick Stahl in 'em. Woeful.

    Matrix Reloaded: *.*;

    Matrix Revolutions: *.*;

    Ladyhawke: fun flick, but christ on a crutch, loose the crappy pop music.

    Brotherhood of the wolf: Alll the 'slow mo' fighting scenes.. terrible.

    The Producers: Loose a couple of the auld ones from the intro.

    gawd I'm bored with this response. I'll stop now before I list the hundreds of movies floating around in my head:)

    this is the ending to the original? Not the directors cut.

    It's not actually a rip off, the scenes in the countryside are B-roll from the opening of the shinning.

    AI last fifteen minutes. Or just every 2nd scene. Huge chunks of Eyes wide shut.

    Can't think of any examples, but you see some scenes that seem to be designed around selling some product, rather than improving the movie in any way. Can anyone think of any examples of this actually?

    You'd lose one of the best jokes and one of the best set-ups in one of the greatest comedies of all time?

    Fair enough then.

    Regarding the producers....

    The intro is too long. The joke is made, time and again in the first 3 - 5 mins of the film as the titles roll, so I dont' see how a judicious implementation of editing would alter that.

    'High Fidelity' ... the sex scene in the car. I get the point of it but it just doesn't fit with the rest of the film.

    Because without setting it up properly, the audience would be left thinking "uh.. why is Bialistock hitting on old women for money? what a sick guy". By giving us two (and let's not forget, it is just two old ladies in the intro.. not the needless repetition you're making it out to me) examples, as well as hinting at countless more via the cabinet full of photos, Mel Brooks gives us a more believable character.

    I'm not saying you're wrong. You have problems with this scene, and like I said.. fair enough. I used to have major problems with this scene when I was younger (my uncle loved it and watched it religiously), but I think that was because I was freaked out by the weird-looking old ladies. I didn't get the joke or why it was necessary to have more than one in the beginning.

    Mind you, at that time, I also didn't entirely understand why a hippy Hitler was funny. But I found his boots at the rehearsal hilarious and that was enough for me.

    Um yes...... that was the whole friggin point, a cut away of Forest Wit ever looking aghast would just have lost the point and would have left audience going "what! whats wrong down there? does she have genital warts or something"
