ok my topic is a bit weird but here's the situation:
i have 2 laptops... dell and sony we will call them.
    i have a crossover cable.
i hear it is possible to create a network using these and without hub/switch.
does anyone know how to do it?
sony has winXP Home with sp2 and dell has win2k with sp4.
My main aim is to be able to transfer files from dell to sony, but the other way round would be nice too.
    thanks.

Configure each machine with a static IP address in the same subnet and connect them with the crossover cable.

    Something like:

    Machine 1: 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
    Machine 2: 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0

should be enough to allow ftp access between them. You'll need an ftp server running in one of them. A popular one is FileZilla.
