What a dreadful song.

Elton John is mouthing off again - but this time I agree with him.

    This from breakingnews.ie

Elton 'nearly died' listening to McFadden release
    19/11/2004 - 09:37:19

Elton John has slammed Irish star Brian McFadden's new single Irish Son, claiming he had to stop listening to the track "in case I committed suicide".

John commented on new music releases as part of his role as guest editor of London magazine Time Out.

John complains: "Brian is probably a nice man, but I nearly died when I listened to Irish Son. I absolutely hated it. It's the worst lyric on a record I've ever heard. I had to take it off in case I committed suicide. It's just horrible. No, no, no."

I accept that - but my God - have you heard the song??? I've never heard anything as bad.

It was like taking a hot poker and jabbing my inner ear with it. Didnt think he could pull it
off but i think he actually made a worse song that his first one, and thats some
accomplishment. I shudder to think what his next "song" is gonna sound like.
Oh and did anyone see the picture of his busking on Grafton Street. He is lucky i wasnt in
the area to deliver a swift boot to his arse and tell him cop himself on the big eejit.

It is one of those songs that they will play in 20 years time and say "God can you believe people bought that?"

The song made me cringe. He should have stuck to cover versions.

not even david brent could write something so trite, what a mong
i also find insulting the inference that we're all under the thumb of the christian brothers and he's at the vanguard of some enlightened modern irishness, smug príck

when all else fails, i can attain slight relief by calling him Bryan mcFatHead, tee heeheee

    ======= WARNING - SHíT LYRICS AHEAD ========

I was born in the heart of Dublin
Back when being gay wasn't cool
Made get on our knees every Sunday with the other fools

We were warped by the Christian Brothers
In the cell blocks at our schools
Get a handprint on your skin
    Before you break their rules

    Go hit me now
    That I'm twice your size
    Brushed off the accusations
    And bowed before your lies

This is the city that raised me
With the religion they gave me
Now I'm old enough to know my own mind
And it was leaving that saved me
I seen so much that has changed me
    Just break with your past
    Feed your own mind
This Irish son has moved with the times

    Weddings deaths or baptizing children
That's my debt paid to the church
I don't need that kind of salvation
    When I get hurt

Don't fill my head with sermons
    And force me to believe

This is the city that raised me
With the religion they gave me
Now I'm old enough to know my own mind
And it was leaving that saved me
I seen so much that has changed me
    Just break with your past
    Feed your own mind
Cos' this Irish son has moved with the times

Our father who art in heaven
Come down here and make your presence known
We can't do it on our own
The lunatics let run the asylum
How can we find peace inside your home
When you can't trust your own

This is the city that raised me
With the religion they gave me
Now I'm old enough to know my own mind
But it was leaving that saved me
I've seen so much that has changed me
So just break with your past
    Feed your own mind
Cos' this Irish son has moved with the times

The temptation is strong on this one..although, you gotta respect their single-mindedness. Two boards, one for him, one for everything else.

I believe that tickets for Elton John's Dublin show next year go on sale next week...

If you don't listen to the lyrics, you can almost tolerate the generic rock sound long enough to escape past the groups of teenage girls and out the front doors of Virgin Megastore.
