Just wondering where the big game shops like Game, Gamestop, HMV, etc or even the online stores like play and cdwow get their games from. Is it Irish wholesalers, UK wholesalers, straight from the individual games distributors?

And how much, per game, are the b@stards making off us nice game buying folk?

    Just curious!

Depends on the title, I suppose. I'm guessing they would probably get them off UK distributors, though, who would most likely have agents/distribution points in Ireland.

Thanks for the replies, if combat cow is right in saying PC games are €9-12 they sure are making some decent money off us! Probably making even more on the old console games too.

I work in HMV myself, don't really know where we get them from to be honest. They usually come in a day or 2 before the release date anyway.

I do remember though, there was a guy on Ebay selling a booklet of game wholesellers and their addresses.

    Give Ebay a try :)

Company called Game used to have distribution rights for Sony Ninty and Msft for Europe. Afaik they all changed to another crowd.

    Games are not 9-12 each.
Cost 0.01 to make 0.05 to package, due to the nature of games and markups wholesalers are cut out and a distribution agent is used. So Sony.Ninty makes the game in their own factory (well maybe a 3rd party) who then ships to a specialised warehouse in say Dublin who then use the national post carrier (or cheapest carrier) some shops like game have large networks and bloke in small van would service Dublin and maybe SDS would do rest of country for a cheap rate.

The actual preretail price would be about 25 for a month then lower as Games life wore out. kinda like the cinema system, the games dev rec a price and each shop takes a set amount.

I found that Musgraves had about 10 games in stock and when you add the VAT they're dearer than buying from retail.

Yeah sure they are, if your not buying in enough bulk, from the wrong people, or just with a bad deal. Knowing what kind of bs (some) retailers can come up with at times, I’ll half-trust CombatCow’s bs before retailers’ bs. Or even the bs that is feed to retailers.

One one-store retailer with reasonable prices comes to mind, asking how they managed to sell games around, and usually lower then the high street chains, I was told because they bother to do the work when it comes to sourcing games.

So how do valve make €25 off each game as said by Gabe Newell in the Gamespot HL2 Final hours article? And Steam gets them the full 50ish. Cant see any shop making a profit on goods they sell for 7 and dev gets 25 off each one.

He's talking about "uk suppliers" - distributors. But it's still a bit iffy.
