Don't forget to contact ComReg - they can stop all outgoing Irish calls to this number, as far as I knew

Why Austria. Sounds like a security thing rather that a porn dialler thing.

That or a DNS on some poor chap's house phone in Austria.

Thanks for letting us know about the issue.
What was the per minute charge on this Austrian number? This must be different from the Band 13 dialler scams.

With regards to refunding, or Eircom making and keeping the profit on the scam, McRedmond told the Communications Committee in the meeting this November:

Chairman: Does Eircom benefit from it?

Mr. McRedmond: Eircom could benefit from it but Eircom will not benefit from fraudulent activity, therefore, that is why we refund customers and refund the money. This fraud was not a fraud which Eircom perpetrated and that is the same for every telecoms company everywhere. That is an extremely important distinction. However, we bear responsibility for customers.

Given this is a number within the EU, there should be a definite redress for you - at least you will have a better chance of accountability as opposed to a shady corporation on some Pacific Island.

BTW has the ComReg directives on "banning" calls terminating in Band 13 countries taken effect yet. I though it was coming into effect a month ago but have heard nothing since. It would be interested to see if the calls and a credit appear on peoples bills.
