    Hey,

I have NTL 1.5meg, pretty good (I swithched from Eircom). The modem is pretty non specific just badged 'NTL Home' no manufacturers lable other than made in China!

Only poor thing about it that there's no on/off switch on it so if you want to turn it off you gotta hit the switch on the socket. Eircom modems are made by Netopia and my one sucked (had to keep resetting it)

I have the 1.5 service from NTL aswell, and im HAPPY with it :)

Iv had it now since the early days and the modem i have is a Terayon model, an early one but its still going strong..

All in all if u are in an area that can get the service and u are a heavy internet user then the NTL service will be great for u..

Iv never really had any downside with the service apart from a few nasty tech/customer support calls. In the early days the Irish tech people didnt have a clue and i had to ask to be passed over to UK based support to have my problems sorted, A lil messy but it was up and runnin in 2 days...

Why did it ake 2days to sort out a problem ?? What kind of problems might i run into switching from Eircom to The 1.5MB connection from NTL and how long does it take to switch over ?? Will i be without Internet for any amount of time Because if so i am eally stuck then ..I can barely afford to Be without it...

And yes, i really do think i need 1.5MB B'band. Eircom only specialise in 8GB / Per Month which is really really sad...I have gone over the limit everyy month and i hod to still hod back ..Where as NTL You can d'Load 1GB Per day which i supose is better in someways...

Also , You know the modem NTLPackage, Is it as good as the Cayman modem eircom package ?? Like does ithave a router in it ....because my Eircom one does which enables me to use 2Pc's VIA USB and Ethernaet at same time...Is this possible with the NTL Modem ?

As ntl is NOT using your phone line you can get it hooked up without disconnecting your DSL line. You can have overlap rather than a bb-less gap.

I have the 1.5mbps package since August. Only about 3 outages, all fixed within an hour. None an inconvenient times e.g. during workings hours when I worked from home.
    Very happy with the product.

I added a Linksys WRT54G wireless access point/router to my setup. The ntl modem (basic 'ntl: home' one mentined earlier) has ethernet and USB ports (only one can be used at a time). No router function AFAIK. The Linksys router is great. So simple to configure, works right out of the box.

NTL service is very good and I have been with them from the startup.

Only problom is support when you try to ring them

But like most posts you will read, you won't need to call support much and in general its only when the area is down (which did happen afew times a the startup) or it my case when my old Terayon modem died.

Go with NTL and if you need support post here and the NTL users will help. :)

When i said i had problems i meant in the early days of NTLs service here in Dub 24,

To be honest iv never had any real problems with the service in the past couple of years, a few hours here and there without service but its usually back within an hour or 2 at most..

I had a major config problem with the service when i first had it installed and even the tech guys were a lil baffled but they were good enuff to keep passing me onto their UK support staff who were able to sort the prob...

Like i said my main probs were when the service was new and their tech guys were still being trained in prob, they were very helpful and in end everything worked out fine, hell i even learned a few things :)

So if i get the 1.5MB B'band from NTL i presume its cable ?? It runs of ure NTL Cable TV Connection also ?? I need the Braodband to be on 2 PC's so wahts the cheapest way of geting NTL on 2PC's ??

Also , My Eircom 1yEar contract ended this month i think. So if i want to keep it for another Month until i get my NTL , does that not mean i ahve to subscribe another Year contract or are you able to use without a year contract after for 1st year ??

They usually put a splitter on the tv cable.

Get a Linksys or similar router. I paid 89.95 in Peats for one. Easy to install, works great.

If you are into your downloading and gaming and whay not it is well worth it. I have been with NTL for nearly two years and the service is great. I think my down time would amount to about a day. The worst was about 6 hours one eveing. BUt it was grand in the moring. I have the 1.5 line now and have more or less always had the best offer they have had going.

Its well worth the money if you use it enough. If you are just surfing etc etc the cheaper package might suffice. It even gives a very very decent ping for gaming. The problem is... when you start seeing down loads com in at 160kbs.. its had to be happy with 60/70 kbs :D And I really mean that... god I hope they dont bring out 3mb.. I dont need it but will take it!! Damn you NTL. Damn your blessed little cotton sox!!

Hell ye , I will def use and NEED the 1.5 MB , i am mad in to downlaoding <illegal stuff>. As i said before Eircom isnt enough , i jsut cant keep up with the Monthly Cap of 8GB !! I am breaking it all the time...

I really do see it nesecary to change...But the only thing i have in doubt is wether it will cause too much hassle or not ...

I have been using NTL 1.5mbps broadband for nearly 3 months. No major headache at all. Now getting a router/switch DLink DI-604 for €47.65 p&p from microaid.ie. My machine is too hot to run 24/7. Heard good says on various reviews on the router. Will arrive soon in 1 or 2 days.

About microaid.ie, they are fine - couple of times bought stuff from them and no problem at all. Friendly and helpful. Loads of stuff also in their inventory list. Another alternative to elara, komplett or jes.
