From my point of view it is, and from my current location it is. The entire post explains that IBB service can be great in some areas and people have praised it however in my area and my customer experience has been terrible. I have sent a number of mails to them and not one reply.

Its my right to say if I think IBB is not up to the standards I think a ISP should be up too.

Its also my right to tell people my bad experiences and that I cant wait to get a provider that will meet my standards i.e answer support mails will be a majour selling point!

As promised, here are my pings at a busy time you will see it is totally unusable for gaming. I agree with Toms comment and I too am waiting for a better alternative, I think that the majority of people that are happy with IBB are either very lucky to get a decent connection, or have never had broadband before so they don't realise how crap it actually is.

Please remember that Ripwave, the 2.4ghz Breeze equipment and the 5.8ghz equipment are all TOTALLY distinct in their general operation. You can't say that all products are crap, because that simply isn't true.

the 5.8ghz equipment is the best they offer at the moment, and typically does offer a great connection for all. The 2.4ghz breeze has been known to be dodgy, and i used to have that, and it was horrible for me.

Ripwave really depends on your area. You may or may not get a decent signal, there is nothing that can be done about that other than moving house. If you don't get a signal, tough tits. Think of it as failing an ADSL linetest.

I dont know whether this is a glitch in firefox but I was downloading ipod update and my starting speed was 1000kbps. It went down slowly and drop around 300kbps. I downloaded 36MB within 3-4 minutes :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

    Its a bug...

As soon as you click on a link to download a file, Firefox (and most other browsers) begin downloading the file. But the timer only starts once you select the download location... So if you leave a gap of a minute or so between when you click the link and choose the save location, you'll notice you'll have amazingly fast speeds, and will download the file in an amazingly short space of time :p

I am not trying to scare you buddie, just letting you know my experience, I really dont care if you sign up with them or not. Best of luck with what ever provider you go with.

See you on the gaming circut.

Seeing as I bored you folks with a few traceroutes above, I can report that IBB has changed the routes from Bray. Given that some router at RTE was adding about 100ms latency that's probably a good thing. It looks like this now:

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.2.1
    2 2 ms 2 ms 9 ms bray-vl-vlan-1.irishbroadband.ie [62.231.50.193]

    3 17 ms 18 ms 14 ms 62.231.32.238
    4 31 ms 33 ms 34 ms 62.231.52.34
    5 19 ms 29 ms 24 ms 62.231.52.229
    6 10 ms 11 ms 12 ms suez-inex.hosting365.ie [193.1.208.202]
    7 20 ms 17 ms 24 ms boards.ie [82.195.131.130]

Here's hoping for more consistent performance.

Spoke to IBB today, I am not on the VL gear. I need to contact sales to get on the VL gear.

The VL gear should allow me to download the entire internet quickly ......

Not anymore I don't think. They stopped the non-VL 1MB package. I'm 99% sure the 1MB package has VL gear.

Was playing with Drapper on my server in France and his ping was indeed atrocious (erratic, from 70-80 to 450 then 800 then back down to 115, etc)... :(

Hope it's because they were upgrading hardware (fibre optic anyone? lol)! ;)

Well I got a call from IBB today (just 1 week after sending my order form).

They wanted to know about the building I lived in. I told them it was 3 storeys high and that the roof was not accessible from inside the house. As a result, they'll have to come out with some kind of small crane as ladders are only used for buildings up to 2 storeys high. This is definitely going to lengthen the whole process... :( I'm still hoping I get an IBB connection before Christmas though! Fingers crossed ;)
