So is the snow over for north Dublin? Was pretty heavy earlier but didn't stick, stopped a couple of hours ago and there seems to be little trace of it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Oh no i assure you of at least another 30mins of snow :)

Very close run thing the main batch
    possibly stating too far north

Some serious looking echos on the 1600 radar to the northwest , I'd guess mayo and Donegal are interesting places to be at the moment, the whole movement appears to be shifting eastwards (see attached file for radar high res radar animation) which is good news for us on the east coast (if you like snow, going to be an interesting night).

a few light flurries falling outside but i dont think its gonna amount to much as the radar shows nothing in my area but mayo, donegal and most of northern ireland looks alive with even more snow than there is in scotland.... sky news weather issued a warning half an hour ago for northern ireland around now and eastern ireland for tonight with blizzard conditions and up to 10cm of snow to come

If not already reported, a good covering of snow (2cm, no more) in North Co. Meath/ South Co. Cavan since 6am, some heavy snow showers all day keeping it topped up, now its become more sleety since 3pm.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

the light flurries have now turned into huge flakes bigger than 2 pound coins and they are coming down thick and fast... hopefully this will last a while.... heading its way towards north dublin once again

Nope it is dissapating unfortunately..a few of the bigger echos have made it to Dublin just about during the day..the ones in the north at the moment look like they just about might make it here..will be touch and go though.

    well to an extent
If you look carefully, you will see it's all been heading more south than east and dumping its load as it does so.

If its any consolation for snow lovers, the patch up north now is wider and more extensive than anything that has moved south so far.

Wow ..the 16:30 radar looks very good !!! , if anything its getting bigger..come to papa..Gonzo if you are under that would expect its really coming down and likely to last for a while!!

If you dont like it, then your not what I would consider a true friend. Espically to come here and give out about him. Anyway, lets stay on topic shall we ^_^.

Noticed the clouds getting fairly big and dark over the sea, not much over land tho.

thers an extra inch on the ground in hte past half hour here in dunshaughlin, no grass to be seen anywhere, everythings covered... snow is now light tho but it cud get heavy again any moment. this looks like the heaviest snow ive seen since 2001 definitely but it was an easy target we've had hardly any snow since then anyway.

Radar doesnt deal with snow to well sometimes, intensities are often exaggerated ...its really just an indication that there is stuff falling from the sky when its snow..generally brighter echos indicate heavier falls..but sometimes its wrong in wintery weather.

I might even send ya up a burger. :) I do a good bit of hot air ballooning down here in Waterford so Ill try get in touch early in 05 to get some good sites for really accurate forecasting.

Could you do me a favour and look through your latest stuff there for a 24 hour snow forecast for Waterford? The kids here are glued to the windows checking for it.. and Im just as bad!

    Cheers!

Ah the partypooper; sleet and wet snow now falling in NE Louth after a very heavy snow shower which was lying until the sleet started :(

Snow stopped now in Lusk and what was on the ground is quickly melting:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,489 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Unfortunately the dewpoints are rising to the north and moving south , it seems that even if more precipitation reaches us it will be increasingly sleet then rain :(
Ahh well was nice while it lasted.

Its still snowing lightly but the dewpoints to the north are saying game over to me, still the best snowfall in years here :)

I wouldnt be soo pessimistic keep an eye on your temps and
dewpoint, minor rises in temperatures in the north are associated with
a warm core but this will move out into the Irish sea soon
so i'd expect at least sleet from the comin showers and i think
they'll be of snow although probably not lying :)

  • Subscribers Posts: 8,322 ✭✭✭Scubadevils

    snowing again here.

I have a dilemma - due to drive from Lusk up to Bettystown shortly to visit my mother, anyone have any thoughts as to if I should or not? Is the snow likely to keep falling? Will also have my wife and 3 month old baby in the car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

The snow will keep coming probably through until
the early hours, you make up your own mind i wouldnt
want to decide especially with a young child in the car ;)

Don't agree m8, unless its a really heavy shower, is most likely that showers from around 21:00 roughly will be of sleet ..turning to rain towards morning (in Dublin), hope i'm wrong :)

Untreated roads are very likely to be slippery, would think hard about driving outside tonight, maybe tomorrow would be a better idea when you have a wife and kid to consider.
