    Hi all,
I'm looking for a freely downloadable app to convert CDs which I own to mp3 format. I want to transfer a load of CDs. Would anyone have a good recommendation.

    Cheers!

CDex. It is free, and highly recommendable.

What media player do you use? I'm sure that can import your CD's as MP3...

Thanks for the replies so far.

I don't use a media player on the computer, I wanted to rip the CDs to transfer them to a portable mp3 player (which I've yet to buy!).

I would not use anything other than CDex - best in the business

Mostly just a matter of personal preference for what you use as the front end. All that really matters is that you use LAME as the actual encoder. Incidentally I use dbPowerAmp as my front end.

Better than EAC? I've used both, and find that although EAC is more geeky / has a more complex interface, it is a much better ripper than Cdex.
