    Hi,
i've got 2 isdn lines and i'm looking to upgrade to dsl.
i mailed esat who replied with this
Yes it is possible to get Broadband on an ISDN line. It will, however, have to be installed by an engineer at a charge of €190 (the only exception is if your ISDN is 'plug and play', you may then do self install).

Now, i can't see what PnP isdn could be? its the line, not the box surely?

Have any of you got dsl installed on an isdn line?
Is there much work to get this done? €190 for an engineer is a huge amount of money if they just plug in a box.

    Thanks,
    David

I actually replied to this but the post seems to have dissapeared.

Basically you need to have the ISDN removed off your line.
Once you do that get a Cancellation Number.

Then call in and sign up for BB and give them the cancellation number.
As for the Plug n Play thats a seperate matter where you have 2 lines one ISDN and another PSTN. You need to get it completely removed.

Hope this helps and it doesnt get deleted again! :P

so you're saying that it can't be done on the isdn lines?

    Indeed i am.
ISDN runs at a higher frequency.
ADSL runs on the same frequenct as standard PSTN but at a different Band.

So you see the ISDN will interfere with the DSL signal.

Plug and Play is just an Eircom branding to sell ISDN to home users.
You get a different wall box to business customers.

Basically if you can plug an ordinary phone into the box instead of a special
ISDN handset, you've got plug and play.

Contrary to what ESAT said though, I believe it is not possible to get broadband
on an ISDN line and keep ISDN services. The line will be downgraded to PSTN first.

You will also lose your second MSN number from your ISDN line.
