the lyrics that u like to listen to/chill out to after a ****ty day or maybe when ur just in a good mood and feel like a good tune....whatever reason u have.....some of mine r...

    zeppelin - stairway

"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll."

    slayer - mandatory suicide

"holes burn deep in my chest raped by machine gun fire screaming skull sent out to die, livin mandatory suicide"

cyndi lauper (not phil collins stupid brain mad.gif ) - true colours

"you with those sad eyes dont be discouraged though i realise its hard to take courage in a world full of people u can loose sight of it when the darkness inside u makes u feel so small"

    sepultura - the hunt

"We Followed Your Man Back To Your Front Door And We're Waiting For You Outside
'cos Not Everybody Here Is Scared Of You
Not Everybody Passes On The Other Side

No Police, No Summons, No Courts Of Law
No Proper Procedure, No Rules Of War
    No Mitigating Circumstance
No Lawyers Fees, No Second Chance

We Could Spent Our Whole Lives Waiting
    For Some Thunderbolt To Come
And We Could Spent Our Whole Lives Waiting
For Some Justice To Be Done
    Unless We Make Our Own"

i have loads more but im afraid it would just take to long to think of them all.... smile.gif

As for me its a tough questiion; probably red House painters 24 or Medicine Bottle
    or Billy Bragg - Brickbat

Was that phil collins one serious?
if so i think it should be removed. i also think phil collins should be removed (from living) for general crimes against humanity.

    dave matthews band - crush

Phil Collins is a blot on humanity - I hate that middle of the road ****** that he churns out. Ooooohh I have written a song about the homeless here in my 2 million pound mansion - like fu<k off.

And didn't Cyndi Lauper do that song in 1986? I think you'll find she did.

    Picture Phil COllins as Rocky...
Black Wizard knows... If Plastic Memebrane sticks his head into this post - he'll be laughing uncontrollably right now...
But enough of the private jokes.

    Anyway, favourite lyrics...

I generally like anything Richie Edwards or Nicky Wire (a.k.a. the lyric writing team of the Manic Street Preachers) are dead good.

    All the best,

    ahhh phil, phil, phil..hee hee!!

My Fave lyrics on the other hand, well particular lyrics by Adam Duritz from Counting Crows sometimes feel like they are talking about me, which is very rare, i could give loads of examples but im not gonna. Also the usual REM and Radiohead lyics, are really brilliant, especially Micheal Stipe's, which is pure, bizarre poetry sometimes. My favorite at the moment is Lover, You Should Have Come Over by Jeff Buckley, the lyrics speak of love like no other song ive ever heard..i could go on forever..

Finally, when i listen to Sit On My Face by Monthy Python i feel as if the boys knew me personally.

"Life can be fine if we both 69.."

Damn it Jim, im a doctor, not a Beefy King !

"I was just checking the mail,
get it ? checking the male..."

    Just sprung to mind.

And, ahem, Phil Collins is l33t with a capital 3.

Castor Troy - you now have my admiration - and being that nobody here knows me I should add that that is a hard thing to get.

CB - Red House Painters - how depressingly brilliant can lyrics get.
"So it's not loaded stadiums and ballparks
And we're not kids on swing sets after dark"

Finally - plastic membrane picked out a truely great song. Lover You Should've Come Over is pure class.

Plastic - you live in Castlebar? Who are you?

    Those lyrics should have read:

so it's not loaded stadiums or ballparks
and we're not kids on swingsets on the blacktop
and i thought at fifteen that i'd have it down by sixteen
and twenty-four keeps breathing in my face

lyrics eh.. cant realyl pick a single song.. guess it would have to be Dogs from Animals by Pink Floyd.
I love concept albums where the whole story is told out over the length of the album:
Pink Floyd - the wall animals
and all of Roger Waters - pro's & cons of hitchhiking.

I used to think my dad was elvis,

I haven't told my dad either.

"With all the will in the world
    Diving for dear life
When we could be diving for pearls "

    Brilliant song.

Name it and you win my admiration

    'Shipbuilding' by Elvis Costello.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 616 ✭✭✭C B

Actually Jeff they should have read:
so it's not loaded stadiums or ballparks
and we're not kids on swingsets on the blacktop
and i thought at fifteen that i'd have it down by sixteen
and twenty-four keeps breathing in my face
    like a mad whore
and twenty-four keeps pounding at my door
like a friend you don't want to see
    oldness comes with a smile
    to every love given child
    oldness comes to rile
    the youth who dream suicide
    tongue.gif

but i think that the way they're sung matters a lot as well. especially with the Jeff Buckley song.
everybody slagged the phil collins lyrics because we all know they are sung withoout any passion.

    i just wanted to ask
if i coulde eat yue ass
write back as soon as you can".

    it so cool

chorus:"you've had a lot of dick, had alot of dick,
i've had alot of time, had a lot of time,
youve had a lot of dick chasey,

"I know a girl who feeds a ghost
    She'll make you breakfast
    She'll make you toast
    She don't use butter
    She don't use cheese
    She don't use jelly
    Or any of these
    She uses......Vaseline
    Vaseline"

From "She Don't Use Jelly" by the wonderful BenFoldsFive.

You should just hear the next verse... smile.gif

Okay, that Sepultura song was a cover by New Model Army.
I like sepultura but lyric wise I would not count them as the best around. REMs lyrics are pure rubbish too.

I was going to suggest Nick Cave. Bit depressing though at times. Jeff Buckley is good too and Elvis Costello. And just for a laugh. Primus - Wynonas Big Brown Beaver. Nice.

Smashing Pumpkins lyrics usually tend to be good.

I especially like the line "Lost my innocence to a no good girl" from the song 'An ode to no one'

As long as band doesent mention its own name 10 times a song like Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit then its ok in my book

Anyone know whats the story with the Kid Rock song that totally rips off Metallicas riff from 'Of Wolf and man'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 221 ✭✭black_wizardd

yellum.....yeah i know it was a cover....unreal isnt it that N.M.A have'nt made it i mean just listen to the hunt..... and thats only a snippet of the song (as u seem to know smile.gif)the rest of it is just as good.....love that tune.....have u herd any more of there stuff??

mad.gif now whats this about the rape and ruin/rip off of the "of wolf and man" riff...tut tut kid rock...u should know that talentless fuppin muppets (like urself) who have the complete nerve to kall themeselves a metal band/"nu-metal band", when in fact they are just a bunch of rappers (limp d**k also komes to mind) spoutin sh!te into a mic at <switch to bogger mode> no fixed rate (aye!)<bogger mode disengaged>....should never touch a song like "of wolf and man" for fear of been casterated and fed alive to the zombie mum from braindead....thats my two cents....

    return of the FLOPPY MONSTER...rrraaaaarrrrrr

Here are a few which i think are pretty cool
The Man Who Sold The World (david bowie)

We passed upon the stair, we spoke in was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago

    (CHORUS 1)
    Oh no, not me
    We never lost control
    You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazley stare, we walked a millions hills
I must have died alone, a long long time ago

    Who knows not me
    I never lost control
    You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

One of my fav songs at the moment is this one by guns and roses
    14 Years

I try and feel the sunshine
    You bring the rain
You try and hold me down
    With your complaints
You cry and moan and complain
    You whine an tear
Up to my neck in sorrow
    The touch you bring
You just don't step inside to
    14 years
So hard to keep my own head...
    That's what I say
    You know...I've been the beggar...
    I've played the thief
I was the dog...they all tried to beat

    But it's been
    14 years of silence
    It's been
    14 years of pain
    It's been
14 years that are gone forever
    And I'll never have again

    Your stupid girlfriends tell you
    That I'm to blame
    Well they're all used-up has-beens
    Out of the game
This time I'll have the last word
    You hear what I say
I tried to see it your way
    It won't work today
You just don't step inside to
    14 years
So hard to keep my own head...
    That's what I say
    You know...I've been the dealer...
    Hangin' on your street
I was the dog...they all tried to beat

    But it's been
    14 years of silence
    It's been
    14 years of pain
    It's been
14 years that are gone forever
    And I'll never have again

    Bull**** and contemplation
    Gossip's their trade
If they knew half the real truth
    What would they say
Well I'm past the point of concern
    It's time to play
These last 4 years of madness
    Sure put me straight
    Don't get back 14 years
    In just one day
So hard to keep my own head
    Just go away
You know...just like a hooker she said
    Nothin's for free
Oh I tried to see it your way
I tried to see it your way
