Not sure if allowed mention the ISP. But anyway have a broadband connection which until recently has been running just fine. When playing games I am now suddenly suffering terrible packet loss. I then noticed that I cannot ping machines on the internet but I can load webpages no problems. Anyone have any tools or suggestions or advice on this.
    Thanks a milion.

Run a tracert , ie : tracert www.clarity.jolt.co.uk and see where the bottleneck is . Also say who the ISP is as there are some worse than others , and also so what exchange it is .

    Thanks for the suggestion jonski
Will check this evening. It is EsatBT and I'm on the Limerick (Roches Street) Exchange.

Great I will check once I get home from work.
I get the feeling though that maybe it is a firewall thing. I am running WinXP.
I cannot run a tracert on my work PC here. I have checked to ensure that I have the firewall turned off and it is but I cannot ping or tracert.

Have you changed anything recently ? , upgraded anything ? , I presume you could do a tracert before ? .

  • Registered Users Posts: 135 ✭✭pleuraXeraphim

I havn't changed anything myself. I havnt tried a tracecert for quite a while but used to be able to ping machines etc which I cannot do now.

did u try running a diagnostic on the modem? You seem to be getting dns returns okay. Could be something as simple as a wrong username/pass on the modem.
