Could this be the end of Bittorent?

I was under the impression that the very nature of the Bittorrent client ensured that there was no way of taking down the network?

There'll more than likely always be people prepared to host trackers and torrents on their sites and countries with lax enough copyright/hosting laws to allow them do so (I'm looking at sealand here...)

It won't be the end, just like it wasn't the end for regualr p2p. Usenet is faster and better anyway so when or if it does get to the stage where there's feck all to download on bittorrent its just a matter of moving on and paying the $10 a month subscription to a decent usenet server.

I wonder does it apply if you dont seed a whole upload (e.g. only sharing part of an incomplete file) Surely if the file isn't accessible until it is complete no one person could get charged for uploading bittorrent.

    A "newnova" ;) lol
Bittorrent is nowhere near dead Bram Cohen gets "enough money to fund his family comfortably" in donations from fans. Trackerless support in the new beta (when its released) will remove the need for going to tracker sites to download so you can search on the Bittorrent site for torrents instead of having to rely on a tracker

Bittorrent is just a protocol - Blizzard uses it to distribute the patches for World of Warcraft, for example. It's not something that can be 'banned'.

The various services that distribute copyrighted material using this protocol will no doubt be closed down but new ones will just sprout up afterwards.
