Yes. Looks like it could either be a lot of fun, but there is always the problem that Lionhead games have suffered from: over-hype. There is also very little chance of a demo.

I expect RoosterTeeth to be getting their copies free :)

yeah, as much as i love lionheads original game ideas, their execution sometimes isnt as good as it should be

but if this game works well, imagine the amout of new crap on the internet :) just look at what garrys mod did for hl2

Biggest thing to overcome in this game is how are they planning on making a game from it?

Plus it's biggest selling point: making your own movies. Is also it's weakest. Watching a movie you made yourself is pointless as you know what's going to happen and will it be worth paying so much money for something to watch other peoples amateur movies??? I don't think so.

I think this will be like the sims, will be great for a day, boring afterwards.

Yeah it true, what the actual game is supposed to be is kinda vague. As I understand it its like Movies Tycoon or something, hiring actors, scripts, man management, building up your studio and the actual moviemaking section is supposed to be the gimmick that sells the rest? Like you said, the movie making bit will get old really fast unless youre incredibly talented in which case why would you need The Movies for your machinima?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭Ri_Nollaig

the movie making section is suppost to b very simple yet powerful overall it seems like an incredible orginal idea and fair play to lionhead for making it. but yes the idea of making movies does sound like it can get boring fast which just leaves it as another <industry> tycoon game :(
its going to be released on all formats (i think?) does not seem like a kinda game that u could play on a console

Because it's easier. I know you can make great machinima with HL2 for example but there is no easy way to figure out how without researching loads of different angles - map making, model making, sound recording and importing, camera manipulation and so on. The Movies, if it works, will let people put their ideas to work without spending a year working out how to manage it. I am excited about this because I love the idea of machinima and have never had the time to invest in it. Only annoying thing now is that they have a very expensive special edition coming out too but with loads of set, model, sounds etc. which is tempting.
Anyway I'll wait for the reviews too because I want to be sure it works well.

While in general I listen and take note of PCZones reviews as far as I'm concerned PCZone is just an extension of Lionheads PR Department.

    CANNED ANIMATIONS.
does this mean we can obviously only pick select few actions, but despite that would you be still able to move characters around.

i would have liked something with total freedom [adding in your won textures and movements etc] bit hard though since this game is concentrating on actually being a producer etc

There is a review on Boomtown which is a bit more glowing than Gamespy and IGN but the reason I point to it is I recommend you download his two movies particularly the Boomtown reviews The Movies film which does a good job of explaining some of the things you can do.

well i bought it yesterday and i have to say i love it :D
so far i have really only played the tycoon part and it is good. u have huge options in wat way u want ur movie made and the radio guy is actually really fun. i have just had a quick look at u can make ur own movies and there really is a huge amount of stuff to choose from. u can pick an era and even add in your own voice lip-sycned! ofcourse to actually make a good movie that people would want to download would really require some talent :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

I got it yesterday and was pretty "ho hum" about it until I finally got my hands on the Custom Script office. This opens up the entire game in a whole new way - you directly control every facet of your movie, plot, sets, backdrops, costumes. I'm still in the 20s, but I assume that when the 'talkies' come around, I'll be able to add voice and music and all that too.

The tycoon side is pretty fun too. A little too much micromanagement for my tastes (you have to make sure your director doesn't just wander off set for a drink), but I guess that's the way most sim games are these days.

One problem I've had is that I can't get into the Studio Attractiveness screen, pressing L does nothing for me. Anyone else had this problem?

Uwe Boll inc is now in production :)

my first movie that i made(took ages to get it right) didnt work out too well, as my actors and actresses were soo drunk and unhappy they never got changed into the costumes they were assigned

think my next game will be a version of halo :p
