My wife was complaining today that the ABS light on her 1997 Nissan Micra (Japanese import) was coming on randomly-especialy when she uses the brakes. The radio seems to go off as well and if she has her headlights on, she notoices as if the lights are weaker than usual. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong. The car passed the NCT recently without a slightest problem. We live in D15 so if anyone knows a decent mechanic who would have a look and repair whatever is wrong, I would appreciate any input.:(

On the radio issue has a new one been installed recently by any chance?

No, the radio came with the car (it's an old Kenwood radio).
I just checked the brake fluid: OK.
Took the car for a short spin and tried the ABS and it worked fine without any hassle. Anyway, I reckon it is worrying if the ABS light goes on. Wife said that (she thought) the engine worked strangely when the ABS light went on!

The ABS light has being on my dash since i bought my peugeot car 6months ago and its grand. I think the problem on mine is just a sensor on the wheel is loose or something, least thats what i was told when looking for info. Doesnt matter as long as the brakes work ok which mine do. Also, if the ABS fails she`ll still have conventional brakes on the car. Your sure its the ABS light and not the Brake pads needing replacing light.

But if your car is having other issues as the engine behaving strangely, then you should probably get it checked out. Bring it to any backstreet mechanic first, but you may need to bring it to a Nissan dealer if it needs diagnostics ran on it to determine exact problem.

Not sure Nuttzy. Will have the brake pads checked this weekend.
Anyway the car is due for a service so will find someone 2 do the job. On the issue of servicing the car, this is the first Jap import so I hwas wondering would the "normal" Nissan dealers have any issues with servicing a japanese import car or will I have to find someone who specialises with imports?
