I got a leaflet through my door about a meeting in the Harvest next Thursday about this new 1000 house development. I'm considering going as it's well beyond a joke at this stage.

    /scratches head in bewilderment

Might need to do some work on that inner relief road then (the one named after the cyclist, Harry whatshisname?). The new layout at the end (near the church) is shocking

I got the same leaftlet on Saturday (regarding the meeting on Thurs 16th Nov in the harvest.) It is being organised by the Socialist Workers Pary - not my favourite party, but them and the Greens seem to be the only ones interested. (I attended a previous meeting on Management Companies and some of the councillors were pretty pathetic.)

I plan to attend. Fingal County Council seem determined to ruin the town - I don't know what kind of planners they employ, but they seem to be determined to construct a town that is unpleasant for the older and newer residents to live in. What gives? Where do planners learn their profession?

    My bug bears:

    * Moylaragh Road becoming an access road to Dunnes and the upper estates (Martello Tower etc.) instead of the cul-de-sac it was meant to be

    * Hamlet Lane - Try walking on down the lane on a dark morning/evening. We finally got lights, but no foot path; Drivers won't slow down as they pass very close to pedestrians. Add to that the increasingly dangerous junction of Hamlet Lane and the Drogheda Road/N1

*Management Companies - Fingal trying to get estates managed on the cheap by getting residents to pay for services provided freely to others.

    * Investors. My biggest complaint is that so many houses have been, and will continue to be bought by investors. In my experiance, renters make for bad neighbours. in my own case, they park in my (legally owned by me) parking space, they often put their rubbish in my bin, and speed through our very narrow and windy estate. They often have little care or consideration for the neighbourhood or the town in general. (I'm talking about renters who don't eventaully plan on buying in the area - I know some people have renetd here before buying.) It is dissappointing to see Fingal giving investors more opportunities to destroy neighbourhoods.

OK, end of Rant. I *do* like living here, but it is becoming increasingly unpleasant.

Hope you are all registered to vote (check here http://www.fingalcoco.ie/ereg/ ). I can't wait for the politicians to start canvassing. :D

It is ridiculous,I live in Martello Towers and there is no other way in to the estate other then through Moylaragh and so many of them park their cars on the road there, allowing only one lane of traffic,it is oh so irritating.

There is supposed to be a slip road eventually from here down to the motorway but I haven't checked the status of it recently and tbh I am not holding out much hope of it happeneing soon.

There is an estate of houses which has no street name yet beside us,they have been finished for quite some time but as of yet appear to have no residents and never had a show house?I am quite curious about them so if anyone can shed some light on this for me I would be greatfuil, rumour has it that they are affordable housing houses but I have no idea.

and talking about light about 2 weeks ago we finally got street lights \o/

    Hi All

saw a glimpse of this in tonight's Evening Herald. Kind of relevant based on the last few posts. The article talked about all the new developments, housing & apartments etc was creating a boom industry for burglary. It mentioned Balbriggan as particularly bad. Anybody know if there is any truth in that or just more Evening Herald BS.

    I'm a recent blow-in so wouldn't know myself.

    Dakan.

There does seem to be a high enough car theft rate, but most houses look alarmed..maybe there is a reason for that!

Never heard anything about a high car theft rate in Balbriggan, where are you getting this from?

    Just what I have witnessed

Just how many cars have you seen stolen? I'm intrigued by this whole thing.

I've heard a couple of stories of vandalism of cars, and a few cars being broken into and I'm sure there are a couple of stories of cars being stolen, but I've never witnessed any of this. I don't live a sheltered life. I doubt there is any more or any less than any other town in the country.

I dunno many people in Balbriggan but from randomly talking to others there seems to be a level of car thefts and higher one of vandalism.
To me it is high due to its continuous existance rather then anything else as it has been a long time since I have lived in a place that had any level of it tbh but no where near as bad as when I lived in Blanch.

I'd imagine what people are telling you is hearsay.

Unless you've witnessed something in Balbriggan, don't believe it, EVER!

    Great town for 'talk'.

If you farted at the church, the whole town will think you've shít yourself before you even get home.

    Sums up Balbriggan.

There was a spate of break-ins last year and early this year, the persons responsible are no longer in this country (they were both foreign). As far as I know, there haven't been many in recent months. As for cars being stolen, I'm not aware of this happening very much at all either - then again most thefts are usually carried out by people who don't live in the area affected.

In my opinion, there is certainly no "joyriding" problem in Balbriggan. So I would agree with your assessment :)

Incidently, does anybody know what will be in the new retail park that is being built beside Wavin? Looks like it is nearing completion.

was going to ask this myself.
would wonder what will be go in there as some people would think that it is a good bit outside the town at the moment

Heres the commercial details for it.

    http://www.cumisky.ie/rm/listings/l0211.shtml

I'd say they'll have to put a traffic controlled junction in where it hits the old N1 (R132) as it's a pretty dangerous spot on the brow of a hill and partially blind.

here is a pdf brouchure on the development

    http://www.cumisky.ie/rm/listings/pdf/211.pdf

I heard rumours, you know balbriggan, that a large well know store will be taking units in here. Store wasnt named, but the impression I got was that it was a hardware shop like woodies, atlantic or B&Q. But as I said you know Balbriggan

Where on earth did you get that impression from? These are units averaging 600 m2 each, max 2,000 m2 (if a retailer takes the full 5 blocks)

B&Q in Swords is 6,000 m2, Atlantic Home care is a similar size. Woodies in Swords is 2,787 m2, and thats very small.

The units in Balbriggan will be for the like of a motor factors, pet food store, small computer store etc..., No large retailer would touch a premises of this size, I expect them to suit independent retails

that is my point, rumours in balbriggan. When it was started to be built they where the rumours I heard.

I know that large stores like the ones I mentioned will not go anywhere near it.
