    This works for all phones??

Correct - unless its a very old phone. Its strange that so many people don't know.

i dont have a landline now so i leave my phone on, never switch it off at night, but now i put it on the other side of the room to ensure i get up in the morn to turn the alarm off, and in some way keep me awake!! me and my friend always ring each other when we get home from a nyt out, ive often drifted off while talking to her...whoopsy!! i hate gettin msg's when half asleep, cos i always answer them, tho they do actually make sense  even tho written while half asleep

use it for an alarm and the time during the nite. Usually have it under my pillow with the vibration off so it usually doesnt wake me

My phone is almost permanently on silent, i turn on the sound to use it as a second alarm (Marty Whelan is my first  )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,545 ✭✭✭Green_Martian

I usually leave mine on.....except for Friday and Saturday nites as i usually want to sleep in the next morning and don't want anyone annoying me.....

Also use it for alarm, i knew about the "turning it off and the alarm will still work" thing but i never bothered, as other ppl have stated its good to leave it on in case of an emergency or a friend needs help at a weird hour........

They might get a grumpy person answering anytime after 1am :D

Its actually amazing how many people didnt know that mobile phones turn themselves on when the alarm is set, even though its off...

I leave mine on for the ladies :)

Being serious, I leave mine on but shouldnt really as I very rarely hear it when asleep. Very deep sleeper!

Has anyone ever got an "emergency call"? So many people are saying it. If I was in an emergency I wouldn't call a mate who's most likely in bed to tell them I've just had a heart attack. Thats what 999 is for people.

There doesn't seem to be much logic.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Nimrod's Son

    I always leave it on....
I also like to set reminders for 4 in the morning on the phones of people who are silly enough to leave them out in front of me down the pub when they go off for a leak. Mwu-ha-ha-ha-!!!

It doesn't have to be that serious of an emergency. Can be somebody crying inconsolably about something..It usually is.

fair play to you ;) so ur password is pretty irreleveant!! i forgot mine before cos i hadnt turned it off in so long!! i turn mine off every few days now to swap sims, to check my vodafone one, pretty annoying to have to keep setting the time and date!!

As soon as I get into bed I turn off my phone and it doesn't come back on till I get up. It ensures a good nights sleep. If there's an emergancy people should ring 999 and not me. If someone is dead - they'll still be dead in the morning.

I think its stupid to leave your phone on at night - the radiation causes nightmares too ;)

I was thinking the same thing !!! ;)

I have a very close friend who swears that her mobile phone caused nightmares. She claims she used always get them but since turning off her phone at night gets the way less. You never know!!

If you charge the phone over-night, I think it has no choice but to stay on anyway, right?

I've started turning if off recently, after really anoying calls from my (former) friend who just broke up with his girl friend. It literally was the saem thing over and over again and if i didnt pick up he'd private his number or use someone elses phone. It went on for a few months, in the end had to get his number blocked.(harsh I know but he was so weird). But i turn it off now...if theres something important my friends can call 999, drunken txts can wait till be read till the next day...drunken calls...well...majorly piss me off.

Emergencys & when my drunken mates decide to ring me at 2am

i always keep my phone on for some reason. I know that the alarm turns it on but still keep it on for somereason. Havent turned my phone off in weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

It's on, because I use it as an alarm, but on silent. I can't think of an emergancy so ludicrious that someone would be ringing me.

sounds stupid but i leave mine on in case something happens to a friend. always on hand to perform some brave deed!!!!

Always leave phone on, just in case. Plus I need to use the alarm.

I leave mine on pretty much 24/7. It's put on silent for the cinema, meetings and while I sleep. I'm a fairly light sleeper so I've been worken more than once by it lighting up when I receive a call - only in the morning when I've had some sleep though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,600 ✭✭✭Cutie18Ireland

mine is for my alarm too, messages set to beep, ring tone on though incase of emergencies or oversleeping...

I use it as my alarm too and to be honest I just don't like turning it off. I've had a phone too lone, it just doesn't feel right. But it's usually on silent when I'm sleeping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,658 ✭✭✭✭The Sweeper

Mine stays on. I used to be on call 24x which sucked cock. The 4am phonecall isn't funny or clever. It usually involved me grunting something along the lines of 'gimme 5 mins and I'll call you back".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,066 ✭✭✭✭omb0wyn5ehpij9

Most nights i leave my phone on, it depends on what's going on that night if it's on silent or not tho!

Same reason we never would disconnect the landlane phone before going to bed I guess
A while ago one of my friends made a habit of calling the house anywhere between 12 and 2 in the morning so we started unplugging the phone at night. You'd talk to him during the day and say "dont call the house late tonight" and he say he wouldnt. But of course he called anyway, and it was always about something stupid like i'm watching a funny episode of The Simpsons or some other tv program

I always leave mine on. Couldn't be arsed having to turn it off at nights only to turn it back on the next morning. That's 20 seconds of my life I can very well do with.

I leave it off and I use the alarm often.

Anyway. Leave it on, can't be arsed turning it off. It's always on silent anyway but with vibrate turned on.

I always leave mine on because I don't have a clock or watch and like not having to go through the process of turning it on.I suppose the whole emergency issue also(of Course).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,668 ✭✭✭nlgbbbblth

I turn mine off every night when I go to bed.

Like others I am amazed that
    a) So many people thought the alarm wouldn't work if the phone was off
    b) So many people don't own alarm clocks.

I don't plug out my landline at night - if there's a real emergency someone will ring me on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭NotMe

I just leave my phone on all the time... couldn't be bothered turning it off and on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 340 ✭✭The Song Thrush

Turn it off, alarm works even when it's off so what's the point in using up the battery.

Tbh, it never occured to me personally. I've never thought "I better leave my phone on so the alarm will work".
    b) So many people don't own alarm clocks.
I do. Also. Having two alarms is essential.
