K, I've played over 220hrs now and seen/done most there is in vanilla BF2, the thing I get my kicks on now, is getting a squad playing together and the teamwork involved.

Had a great game last night two of us ground pounding and a third in a bomber providing close air support. Top fun. The prob is finding a few players that feel the same, it happend once in a blue moon.

So whats the answer ?, join a clan ? (hard to set fixed times to play, varies quite a bit for me). Any servers that tend to get those looking for a "proper" game ?. Oh I like to use the VOIP in game not TS, yeah I know its a little laggy, but is the most convenient.

    Ta,

What server (s) do you play on? and whats your online handle?
I'll join a squad with you whenever I see you. Teamwork rocks when done properly in this game.

I played wake a while back, some random punter joined my squad.
Everytime I died, I'd spawn and run around looking for a vehicle until I hear *Beep, Beep* and it was the dude, he find me and pick me up in whatever vehicle he was in and off we'd go to blow some more crap up, I found this quite endearing so I repaid the favour when he died...
It was my favorite round of BF2 so far...

If you're looking for teamwork then joining a clan is a good solution, yes, but I'd say that the best way to always find teamwork without having to see if your clan mates are available to play is to keep away from ranked servers.

Unranked servers, I find, thed to be used by people who don't care about stats and thus you'll find a larger % who just want to pplay the game properly.

I spend most of my time now on the Tactical Gamer server (based in USA)

    70.86.19.218:16567

Here you *must* join a squad or get kicked. Commanders *must* use VoIP and squad leaders lead (doesn't matter if you're a noob leader though). It's an amazing experience to really feel that you're fighting in the wame battle as 31 other players. If you need help then as the commander for backup and be delighted when another squad arrives minutes later.

Beware though as it gets very addictive. It's difficult to play on other servers afterwards where noone used VoIP and your squad members all seem to be in different corners of the map all doing their own thing!

    That sounds excellent Ponster....
Do you get any lag on that server considering its in the States?

Keyzer, I get a ping of 150 which IMHO is fine for BF2 considering that it has problems with accuracy and hitboxes anyhow. It's the only game that I would even consider playing with a ping of over 100.

They do have rules though that some people can't get used to. (or just find silly).

Players are not allowed into the enemy UCB for any reason other than for the sole purpose of destroying the enemy's assets (artillery/uav/radar). Restricted acts include:

    1. Entering the UCB with the intent on killing a disoriented spawning player.
    2. Entering the UCB with the intent of stealing any vehicle.
    3. Flying over the UCB for air raids / bombing runs.
    4. Entering the UCB with the intent to lay mines / c4.

    3) All players are REQUIRED to PARTICIPATE in a SQUAD.

    4) All players are REQUIRED to FOLLOW ORDERS from their squad leader and commander.

    5) Audio is required.

Every individual must have the capability to hear the voicecomms of other members of his team. While the use of mics is strongly encouraged, the requirement is that you have VoIP enabled and can hear your teammates. If you are unable to hear, please contact an admin and inform him of your situation.

    6) Crack-Jumping is FORBIDDEN.

Crack-Jumping is the act of jumping while engaged in combat or reloading with the intent to avoid being hit.

Could be my choice of serves for defo. Usually I pick ones that have a sub 100 ping (but usually in game its 20-40ms) Clan servers in the UK 1st Para is a usual haunt, ASS/AG Clan Servers, tried BTC but no VIOP (thats correct init Jonski ?), BIA (from my COD days, they used to rock). All ranked, cause I like to see the stats, but dont play for them IYKWIM.

Time to move away from ranked servers I think, I'll try the one mentioned above, cheers. Usually I'll play 3-4 hour sessions after work say 5pm on, and the odd longer session at the weekend before the pub beckons :-) Varies when I get to go on-line though as I share a connection in the house and it'd be unfair to hog it all the time.

    I'm assuming its not ranked?

Must be 2-3 active admins just watching the game to be that strict.
Will give it a go tonight...

Yeah , unfortunately . We are an old school clan and TS is our way of socialising , truth be known TS is our main game not BF2 or TO . It's a way of keeping the clan together and in contact no matter what game we play . Having said that most nights squad work seems to be a big thing on our server , probably due to the likes of the GooN's and SKZ plus ourselves playing there . The Goon's especially play as a good squad .

Man this sounds ( Finaly ) like a good server. Sick and tired of playing on servers, where everyone is doing thier own thing. What makes me laugh is seing the people run around like blues, trying to get that extra stat point, as if thier lives depended on it!. Id forfiet gladly the ranks, if i could get a good tactical game. Must be a busy server, because a lot more people are going for teamwork now rather than chaos. Will be on tonight to check it out...cant wait..cheers ponster.

So now the bad news...... :)

Because it's US based and unranked, it's not often very full when we'd like to play (7pm onwards) as the Yanks only connect from 11pm. For the past 2 weeks though we've run Euro nights on Wednesdays where the server is generally full at *normal* times.

If you connect to the server and find it's empty it just means that you're a little too early though give it a couple of weeks and more and more EU players like us who are tired of a certain type of player/game will be on in the evenings.

So unranked. 500 tickets I believe. Runnng 2 custom maps from the Total BF2 Map Pack 2

I have nothing to do with the server but I do spend 4-5 hours per day on BF2 forums and I can see so many people crying out for this type of teamplay. So connect to it some day, look for a squad with people carrying the |TG| tag as they are more sure to use VoIP. If you decide that it isn't your cup of tea then no worries :)

Clans suck fun and organised never ever in the history of anything came to anything good.

play lone wolf soon enough you will find a likeminded player. Im so proud of my lone wolf status :d

Somfin like 40 mins out of 100 odd hours as squad player 0 commander and 0 squad leader. Tbh i only joined squads to respawn as the team players had got all the bases taken.

ponster orgainsed fun, do what we say or fcuk off? Sounds great.

Those rules are similar to the ones for the Ranked GFF server.

No bunnyhopping. We've actually banned people for doing that after a kick.
No raping/camping red circles, no arty on them either. Again, people have been banned for consistantly doing that.
Only spec ops in to blow assets.

And there is usually at least 1 admin in the backround keeping an eye on the server.

Beat me to it dinner :D
Was just about to say the G.F.F server always has a good crowd on it, always people in squads workign together etc etc, you can pretty much be guaranteed a good game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 307 ✭✭Haket

Cool, does GFF use VOIP ?.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

    Mostly use teamspeak haket

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 307 ✭✭Haket

Ahh ok, my "limited" understanding of TS is, you're all on one chat channel right ?. How does squad level interaction work then ?.

    In reply to Kdjac's comments...

I'd rather play on the Tactical Gamer site to be honest.
The game is bordering on ridiculous at the moment imo. Was on TIG the other night and my own team mate sniped me when I was in the plane because he wanted it... Was on another server last night, some dude called Surm was owning us in the MIG so I decided to jump in a plane to see how good he was... Turned out he was using some hack that made his guns extremly accurate, I mean he was gunning everything down... The rest of the players were running around like headless chickens, votes being called every 2 seconds... I left after 5 minutes...

Tried Tactical Gamer last night about 8pm, very quiet there. All europeans, but seemed a bit more squad based than usual. Played there for about 90mins on the Oilfields. Got to about 6v6 but on that level was a bit gick. I'll try again though.

Yeah, 8pm is about 3pm east coast so not a lot of action except for the European players in there who are hoping that more European players turn up to make a good game out if it.

I was on at midnight (I had a clan match until then) and there was about 55 playing but was too drunk to aim my AT rockets by then :)

Mine were 150-ish but surprisingly playable. A few bad jitters now and then but not bad.
