Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting a laptop soon and want it to be wireless BUT my main pc uses a PCI Dsl modem that there is no way in hell im losing, its superb for gaming and general downloading (ie use a netopia and max download is 210kb but mental with this its 240 constant) And uses less CPU as it has its own processor.

Now to have the laptop wireless can i try ad hoc with a USB wireless thing in the mian pc and a shared net connection? How much of a range will i get or is there another way obviously the best way is wireless router but i love this modem :)

And wireless router is the last solution which i want to avoid.

    Any ideas batmen?

Variations on USB theme w. PC ICSharing.

PCi wireless card, with external antenna fitting, to give it a bit of altitude if needs be.
I found that a (dlink) usb 802.11g with the pendrive form had poor range, 10m, less with walls or the PC stuck in a corner, maybe the mimo ones are a bit better.
Or wireless access point connected out of a network card on the back of your PC instead of a modem.

Get a PCI wireless card as you can use a decent antenna along with ICS for internet sharing.

And if the range sucks buy a wireless repeater to boost the range http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WPN824.php
