    Hi,

We are looking to upgrade our web stats package that we use for our clients websites. We used to use live stats but are looking for something easier to use and more detailed. There is Webtrends but its really expensive.

Can anyone recommend any packages that they have used?

    Thanks

Is this what you're looking for or something completely different..?

Urchin is good - http://www.urchin.com - but don't expect to interact with any humans. It doesn't seem to be "the Google way" - bit mad when you consider how much money they take off you

NetTracker is a very comprehensive product - lots of features. Not sure of price. http://www.sane.com/

Would also recommend statcounter. Good for smaller sites that you don't want to spend a fortune on stats that ppl really don't use that much. NetTracker would be for a serious business website for tweaking marketing campaigns, content, etc. You'd pay the extra money if you were making a lot of money from your site.

Urchin is not bad but I prefer NetTracker. Other free ones out there too:
    webalizer - http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/
    awstats - http://awstats.sourceforge.net/

They're not bad if you don't want to spend any money on stats programs.

    Rgds,

    Dave

The detail in Awstats is very poor compared to any of the commercial stats packages.
Don't get me wrong, I like Awstats, but if you want proper data it really is not up to it.

What kind of features does NetTracker offer that Urchin lacks?

As and from today, Urchin / Google Analytics is completely free. It's time to make the tinfoil hats!

I welcome the increased competition from Google, and hopefully this will result in more choice and better service for webmasters worldwide.

However I' m not impressed with their their initial flurry into free web analytics.

    a) reports are not in real time (i don't know how long the delay is?)
    b) slow as heck at the moment (almost impossible to load)
    c) no email reports

This is the first time I've ever experienced technical difficultes with Google. Their search and email service has always been flawless for me, so this is different.

StatCounter will as always be continually improving the service we have refined and developed over the last 6 years.

There never were email reports with Urchin, but there have always been some very powerful export options.

I'm not surprised it's slow at the moment - they probably got an initial rush of interest.

The reports for Urchin always took a few hours to appear initially - but the level of detail is such that a minor delay shouldn't be an issue.

I've very mixed feelings about the whole thing, though it is saving me $199 a month, which is a good thing.

The issues seem rather similar to those that occasionally plague their advertising system.
