Broadband in Newport community project has been assigned to Westnet. Does anyone know what the current status of the project? When will it go-live?

Additionally can a VOIP phone be used on Westnet wireless network. (Is the backbone satellite of wired?)

As long-standing boards users, we're keen to avoid pimpage, but to answer your question: the radio planning has been done, and a protracted negotiation process for a commercial high site is drawing to a conclusion. Service should be available in the very near future.

The backbone is fixed wireless to ESB fibre. We're allergic to statellites. VoIP is a key priority for us, and the network is optimised for VoIP traffic.
