OK, I've finally taken the bold step of moving everything that was on my BT DSL line over to my Clearwire connection.

    My Wireless Network
My 3 DCS-2100+ security cameras [motion detection only, not live streaming]
    And a couple of machines.

Didn't put a dent in my connection at all. I know have 5 machines [wired and wireless] and 3 ip cameras [wireless] running of my 2Mb Clearwire.

Pings look good, sub 50ms. Speed tests are great. Surfing a dream and downloads at full spead [in or around 200Kbps]. VPN connects within the normal 3 seconds.

On the face of it, I have a perfect connection.

However... after I VPN in to my remote server in Boston, my computer telephony software takes about 6 minutes to open [normally takes less than a minute] and Remote Desktop operation is painfully slow. Screen updates about 30 seconds after I do anything.

I rang support and they are looking into it. We'll see.

I REALLY can't go through another IBB like scenario but I'll give them the benefit for the moment.

I got VoIP enabled so happy days. Skype has decided to work again as well...

What if you wanted to flood ping all their routers? Send hundreds of thousands of spam mails? Host a kiddie porn FTP site?

I'm not saying any of these are the same as p2p; I'm pointing out that you can't do wtf you want. It's not your network. Get over it.

macdaddy is right, you're paying over the odds for their connection and pretty much all you can do is surf the web!

    Rubbish!

IrishTLR - sounds like you're the only satisfied customer Clearwire have at the moment!
I find these sub 50ms pings hard to believe, I only ever got them pinging www.clearwire.ie itself...although now they're over 1000ms.

Can you paste in some pings to servers in the UK and USA?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Blaster99

    With my Clearwire connection:

    jolt.co.uk:
    Ping statistics for 82.133.85.65:
    Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 50, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 38ms, Maximum = 257ms, Average = 45ms

There was only one ping with a time over 50ms and it was that 257ms one.

I doubt you'll see sub 100ms pings to anything in the States.

Here are some results for me. Pay close attention to one set of ping traces. I have a FULL 3.6GB FTP download in the background. My connection doesn't break a sweat.

I also did 2 speed tests. One at 10am and one just now but I can only upload 5 attachments. There wasn't much in the difference except both upload and download speeds were about 20kbps less.

etho_, to say I'm happy is wrong. As I stated in my previous posting, "On paper" I have a perfect connection. Pings are good, upload and downlo0ad are good. But I CANNOT work. Remote Desktop is crap over VPN.

I'm still waiting on an answer from them. But prepare to be amazed by my results attached. If all I did for work was surf and download all day, I wouldn't be complaining.

My pings are perfect when done from the command prompt. The trouble only arises when the traffic is sent over certain ports (i.e. for gaming). I assume the VPN issue is something very similar.

I have no trouble with streaming audio or video.

P2P blocked obviously...1KB max rate I could get yesterday when I tried it out just for the hell of it.

11 days of crap now and counting.

Probably not of much consolation for you, but I just ran a Remote Terminal session over an IPsec connection and it works fine.

This really sucks. Mine is working now. I've been on remote desktop at full speed for about 10 mintes, then as you posted my VPN quit. I reconnected and went back into remote desktop and I'm back to full speed. Let's hope it stays that way. At least until 5pm :)

A sweedish mate of mine just told me that he can get a 100Mb down : 10Mb up for less than €40 or €50

That's just not right. Stone age, I tell ye.

My Checkpoint VPN works fine but my PPTP VPN does not. According to their support department port 1723 is somewhere blocked or IP Protocol 47 (GRE) is not enabled. But it worked for weeks before clearwire started "optimizing" their network.

The callback of clearwire happend this afternoon and they are now looking into this "our network manager will addressess this".

I still can't use remote desktop/terminal server directly without my VPN (used to work), I can't ping the majority of services, my PPTP VPN's don't work.

Skype and Softphone (Blueface) is back but MSN messenger is still not available (works fine via VPN).

So in summary: VPN and direct all traffic via that works fine but don't try using clearwire directly.

They are blocking PPTP ports?

I've suspected for a few days but never heard it from anyone. This is really not good. My connection [VPN and RD] is fine at the moment but shortly after my previous post it was patchy at best.

Got my modem back up and running again :D

Problem it was disabled by accident  clearwire side

Congratulations, wonder why it took them so long to find it out.

I still can't do most of my stuff, there is a slight improvement (well not really), my main VPN servers now return to ping requests but with 377 ms response from either Sandymount or 277 ms response from Washington there is no usage of that VPN.

They still have not come back to me about this problems, surfing is fast with not outage but anything else, nada, nichts, zill, nothing

Who do I have to kick to get my old Clearwire back. If you can't do changes correctly, than don't do them!

ok well i received my Clearwire modem this day last week and i cancelled the service today (on my last day of the cooling off period)

It just sucks... They said that the problem with my skype was because of my poor connection. only one block... so i went upstairs to my housemates room where i got nearly 4 blocks... Skype still doesnt work.. Fair enough if they block p2p but then i expect programs like Skype to work up to scratch. Not asking for much i dont think...

i told them ill see what the service is like in a months time and if i hear good word of mouth such as skpye working great, then i may consider using the service again..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,227 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

Pinging www.clearwire.ie get's me on average of 196 ms!

Pinging of my VPN gateways times out or bring over 377 ms on average, way to much to work.

So tommorrow I have to drive all the way from Swords to Sandyford to go to work because my "superior" customer service has no clue what's wrong and I can't connect to my VPN, remote desktops or even my exchange server unless i use http. Even with an http tunneling I am getting lousy connection.

Before they started trottling - sorry optimizing their network everything was fine, now it's a mess. It's IBB all over again.

I dropped them a demand for restoration of service and as everyone can see from my 2nd half of my user name I'm from some other place so I copied Mr. McCaw into this and if they don't react I'm just gonna call his office and make pressure.

Mine was perfect all weekend. Playing WoW to my hearts content.

Logged in tonight, and had a latency of 2000+. WTF?

    80k ish on speedtests

Reallythinkin of cancelling. Seems to be fine at the weekends, and then during the week, it dies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

    Mine is sh*t 24/7. I don't even get a reprieve at weekends.

Cancel. Really. It's been nearly two weeks now and they either don't have the skill to fix these 'problems', or more likely won't admit they're throttling ports until people are locked into 1-2 year contracts.

I still haven't heard from anyone in Clearwire about my cancellation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,015 ✭✭✭Ludo

They have got until Friday as far as I am concerned. If this is not sorted by then, I am cancelling..."locked into" a one year contract or not, they will not get another penny out of me.

At this stage it looks like they havent a clue how to fix the issue and are indeed playing for time by giving out different stories as to what is going on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,227 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

What I can not understand is, why they don't just roll back the "optimizing" they have done?

If their "optimizing" is creating problems for other users, than simple roll it back and go back to the drawing board.

Ignoring the issues or asking you to ping a webserver for the 50th time when the problem is with VPN/Terminalservers is not really helping.

I send a "Demand of restoration of Service to acceptable and workable level" and if they don't restore to the level before their "optimizing" I'll start withholding my payments. I'm using my US credit card and my dispute rules are fantastic for me a consumer.

That's the info I got from one of their customer service reps:
I am just writing to confirm that we are not blocking Gaming and VOIP, We are remodeling the ports and they will be up any time.
We don’t have a definite period for them but that’s sure we are not blocking them.

97 seconds later I phoned them and told them I was gonna cancel. I'm getting a 5 block signal here and I can't even connect to emule without using HTTP tunneling. farewell Clear(?)Wire

If they're "remodelling ports" (whatever THAT means...) and are going to restore access any day now...why the hell don't they inform their customers?

Sorry, but any patience I had with them has fizzled out and the modem is going back as soon as I get a chance this week to go to the post office.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

Clearwire is down again for me. Rang support and they are down too.

    30 minutes and counting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Shougeki

Im kinda getting sick of this, but i dont really have any other option......

I dont want a phone line, and i cant wait 6 weeks for someone else......

If some other company could actually pull theyre finger out, and get on this board im sure they would get many customers moving over.....

    Is metro wireless anygood?

This is terrible...they have switched off their customer service line and no internet for the last hour. There is a lot of internet providers out there and if clearwire don't get there act together they will lose their existing customers and have such a bad reputation that they will get no new ones. The service is too expensive for this nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

Well, I can't go through another IBBesque debacle. I'd rather quit my job than go through that. I really hope they sort their stuff out.

I just hope that my my phone line can handle the upgrade to 256K upload in January. Currently I'm only managing 40 to 70k upload speeds in all tests :(

I can feel myself getting stressed out already...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,227 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

"Thank you for calling clearwire, our office hours are xxxxxx" thatis all you get when you call their customer service number.

When I called 01-2992400 (which showed the last time they called me as their caller id) you get a very stressed lady telling you "our network is down".

Flashing bars all the time, no IP connection nothing.

It just now seams to be back (but the question is for how long).

Maybe they were rolling back their port-remodelling?

Or maybe their point of contact decided to remodel their ports too?

    :-P
