I could say the same about Mercedes just because I'm not in to them. I don't though because this is an open forum with varied interests and I have more cop on than to go insulting other enthusiasts. ;)

S'pose I could always buy 2 190's and put the 1.8's into the S/E, and the V engines into the 'classic' 190's ????

Bodys in good nick, no rust or dents to be seen. Mostly just needs a wash and polish. The roof is another story, looks like someone went at it with a kitchen knife. Will be having a go at it myself, if the top coat doesnt turn out ok, Ill get it done in a shop.

Did 200 mile journey to Pembroke in her with no problems, not a drop of oil burned. New complete exhaust system which the seller wasnt even aware of!
Brakes are spongy and fuel pump makes a fair racket, other than that, seems ok. Touch wood!

Hope to have her out and about this summer.

Have had this car for 4-5 years. Just finishing off the restoration this weekend.

Its had new paint, engine rebuild, new exhaust, wheel refurb. Partial rewire to hide a stereo system,

Its a 1966 Mark 1 Cortina Estate Woody.

(PS. No Chevy Chase - Griswolds jokes please ;-))

Not so interested in American sportscars, as a saloon\coupe like a (Chyrsler) Imperial. Something pre oil crisis might be something to save up for. I think they look great, and a list of ads for them gives a nice sense how American cars of that class developed. It might be something that is ever so slightly thirsty for fuel.

My car just to avoid clogging the thread with chatter. I need to find driver's side flywindow soon.

My classics. Unfortunately off the road the last while as can't justify the tax. E28 is a 2 litre and the E30 is a 1.8 litre. Have the E28 since May 2001 when I paid €200 for it and the E30 since Feb 2005 when I paid €700 for it.

    Lovely BMW's.

These two cars are prime examples of why we should have a lower road tax rate for vehicles in the 20-30 yr age range (or 25-30 age range). Even if the road tax rates for such vehicles in this age group was halved, it would mean a lot more such cars back on the roads in regular imho.

  • Registered Users Posts: 629 ✭✭✭Tommyboy40

The tax on my 3 is over €3300 annually. I agree that a 20 year tax should be introduced but all the new BMW520's with cheap tax has ruined that idea

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 866 ✭✭✭renofan

I honestly believe tax should start reducing after 10 years in 10 year jumps until the minimal rate hits at 30. There are so many cars just left idle because it becomes crazy to keep them taxed. I have a '97 Laguna which is now more to tax than what I'd get for the car and a '98 Micra that costs more to tax than an F10 520d!!

the powers that be have zero sympathy for these cars, if they did they wouldn't have twice now brought in scrappage schemes for cars over 10 years old.
They want the revenue and job creation from the sales of new cars instead.
