    Hey all,
I see with some trepidation the reputation that Irish broadband have around here.

I was wondering has anyone tried their Ripwave 'no contract' service? I've seen the ads and checked the website. Has anyone/is anyone trying this at the moment?

How does it work? If there is no top up how do you pay? Whats the bandwidth like? (I'm in Cabra).

    Cheers,
    Quad

You have to pay by direct debit. Speed and Support is depressingly crap. Stick with your 56k modem, it's faster and more reliable.

For the sake of your sanity, stay well away from IBB.

A Guy in work this morning told me that his mate bounced his rip wave modem off the wall in frustration and got a new one sent out only for it to go bad 2 days later. He thinks he is getting only 10% the service he should be and Id say thats what im getting on my IBB breze connection.

We were using IBB in the office since last year and things were pretty good until about 3-4 months ago. Now we consistently get rubbish speeds, like 20kb on a supposed 2mb connection. Not only that we keep getting disconnects. I dunno what they are playing at in there but don't touch them with a barge pole. And like everyone else who deals with them we never get any response from their tech support. We’re in the process of changing ISP.

I'm using the ripwave here in limerick..it's not bad as long as you only want it for surfing and downloading..the only game i can play on it is BF2 on the TIG server..worst thing about IBB is their goddamn awful support..can't even get through to them to cancel it as I'm switching to metro

I saw two guys signing up for Ripwave in the Laptop Shop the other day. I still feel I should have gone over and warned them........ Probably would have been escorted from the premises by security guards.

When I returned my ripwave modem to Beyond 2000 I was going to say 'Do you not think endorsing this dreadful service is making your business look bad?'. Wish I had.

I actually wish I had IBB now.

when I did, I complained to the advertising standards saying that they were not suplying what they advertised. Unfortunately advertising on the internet is not classed as advertising as far as ASAI is concerned and they require dates and times of adverts to investigate a complaint. IBB advertise on TV now so the ASAI can get involved. All it takes is a few complaints to nodlaigh@asai.ie and maybe IBB will get a wake up call.

Come to think of it, I'm glad i'm rid of the cowboys.

Anyway point is. Complain to ASAI, IBB are advertising a product on Irish TV calling it broadband and it is not, get complaining to ASAI!!

every one should do the same. They are advertising on Irish television now which means they actually do come under the remit of the ASAI.

Any one who is having a problem with IBB should email and complain to the advertising standards authority... comreg may be toothless but ASAI have an obligation to investigate complaints....

Advertising as a broadband provider and not providing it is against Irish law. IBB are doing so several times a day.

The person to direct your complaints to is: nodlaigh@asai.ie. In your email explain that IBB are advertising a product which they are not delivering. Where you can, quote speeds etc, but remember the recipient at ASAI may not be IT literate and understand, so try to explain in simple terms as you can. Make comparisons with other broadband suppliers etc. Explain your reasons why you think Irishbroadband should not be allowed to advertise themselves as broadband suppliers.

Steering well clear then. Good luck to all of you trying to get out of this quagmire.

It does look to good to be true all right. I'd love broadband but I'm in rented accomodation so installing a phone line, paying line rental THEN getting broadband on top of that ain't on (i have no need for a voice line so thats a total waste).

    Ah well.
