if madrid dont get Ballack they might go for him after the weekends performance, Play him in from of the back 4 in gravassens position should rumers be true of him departing. Mardid seem to have started using him to come on after they score to hold onto the lead which may suite keano.

Can't understand why Juve would want him. Vieira and Emerson have been fantastic this season, and there's surely no place for a third defensive-minded midfielder in there.

I doubt the story is true but if it is you would have to think that if Juve really do want Keano one of those two are on the way out. There were reports early on in the season about Viera being very unhappy with the racist taunts from Itallian supporters.

Meh, he was unhappy with them lat time he played there, but he got over it once he saw the contract.

Would Keane be as effective in a foreign league as he would be in English football? Keane's biggest attribute is his ability to get the best out of players, but how can he do that if he cannot speak either Italian or Spanish? Assuming that he can't speak those languages, that is...

eg. Pase la bola de mierda, boy. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Yep the Juve link was more tabloid speculation, although Sky Sports News also attributed quotes to Keane's agent saying there had been contact (and an official offer made, depending on what paper you read)....maybe he started it. But Juve have come out and said they aren't interested.

    What else do you "guarantee".

The fact is he deserves to play for one of Europes biggest clubs, a move to celtic would be a massive step down for a player of his ability even at his age and he won't play in the Prem. Its anyones guess where he'll go but if the Cetic thing doesn't materialise then it's gotta be Europe. My guess Bayern

shearer was a fool to turn down united the 2nd time (i.e. the move to newcastle)...he could have won so much - and united so much more!

Yes, what a fool Shearer is. He could have turned down the chance to help out his hometown club to join a club where he would be gauranteed medals. The audacity of the man, I don't know how he can look himself in the mirror.

Being a huge fan of both Celtic and Keane personally I would be very wary of him signing for Celtic. He has always said he was a big Celtic fans and would like to finish his days playing for them. Well why didn't he sign 3/4 year ago? Who says Celtic want a player who is now very prone to injuries, has a bad hip and has the ability to ceate problem in the dressing room?
If Celtic did happen to sign Keane it would have to be on Celtic's terms!

I think Keane will sign for West Brom or Man City.

I reckon Stevie Nicol will get Keane over to the ASL :)

Beacuse at the minute he's a class above everyone else in teh spl and 3/4 years ago it would have been a joke for a player of his quality to move to such a sh*tty league. He's too good for celtic. Compare him to Lennon....enoigh said.

My gues is it was a choice between Money and medals, he went for the money.

Hey, Lennon has made a decent career for himself, despite being afflicted with an unknown diease that prevents the victim from being able to pass a ball forwards. I think he might be related to Derek Zoolander.

That's interesting. Forgive if I'm wrong but were Man Utd not the richest club in the world at that time? I doubt they were offering Shearer buttons to play for them. The man has to be commended for the loyalty to his hometown club yet I now have 2 people unable to comprehend how anyone could turn down Man Utd. Mind boggles.

Yes, but they did have a quite restricting wage structure at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭Davey Devil

Give me an example then. I have serious doubts that a club prepared to pay £15 million for a player couldn't afford his wages.

he could have joined his hometown club after a stint with united, at the end of the day although he has scored heaps of goals he hasnt won much, im delighted as a blackburn fan that he won the premier league with us, but id say deep down he will feel he could have won more - and its not as if he didnt have the chance.
I don't know how he can look himself in the mirror.

its quite an easy thing to do

I don't guarantee anything else. I'm just certain he wont uproot his family for 1/2 years when there is no financial need for him to do it. Even if he may deserve to play at a top continental club, that doesn't mean he should or will. He is Celtic bound.

They may have been the richest club but they have (had) a strick wage structure and didnt break it for anyone. People with ambition to be the best want to play with and against the best. I'm not sure, I'll have to watch it again but I think Keane sadi Blackburn were offering as much, if not more money than Utd. Thats th emark of someone who wants to be the best, not going somewhere for purly monitary reasons. So at best Shearer lacked ambition, at worst he is a money grabber.
Give me an example then. I have serious doubts that a club prepared to pay £15 million for a player couldn't afford his wages.

Nobaody said they COULDNT afford the wages, they just had a wage structure. When you are the best team, ambitious winners will want to join you.

I always thought he should have went after 99. He had won everything with UTD and could have really tested himself and shown what he could do in Europe while still in his prime. Italy or Spain would have been a stroll for him. Look at Beckham, he actually looks fats in spain. YOu get so much time on the ball. Look at how much Woodgate has bulked up in SPain, he wouldnt have done that if he had stayed in England, he wouldnt have been able to carry it. I'd say he thought the CL win was the start of a European stint of doinatiion though.

    Do you mean ability wise?

Neither player can pass the ball more than 20 yards & both are past it.

Or did you mean international wise where the only reason Lennon walked out on his country was because his family received death threats............
I mneant ability wise. There is no comparison between players. Keanw was always and still is his superior by a country mile.

Keane to reveal plans on Monday
Roy Keane's advisor says the former Manchester United skipper should have his future sorted out by Monday.

The 34-year-old Keane has been linked with several clubs since ending his 12-year spell with United last month.

Michael Kennedy told BBC Sport: "We should know by Monday what is happening with Roy."

Kennedy said Keane has been keeping fit since leaving Old Trafford and will be ready to make a return to action in January after a broken foot.

Kennedy declined to comment on reports that he has been in Madrid holding talks with Real about a move to La Liga.

West Bromwich Albion boss Bryan Robson - a former team-mate of Keane's - earlier confirmed he has spoken to Keane, who cannot sign a deal until 1 January.

"I've spoken to Roy and he knows there is an option to come to this football club," Robson told the club's website.

"Roy has got loads of options available to him and within a few weeks he will make a decision on which challenge he wants. I've enquired about what he has in mind.

"But only Roy will be able to decide what that next challenge is going to be."

On Wednesday, West Ham assistant boss Peter Grant revealed the club have been in contact with Keane's advisors.

"We've made contact to say we're interested," said Grant.

"We would love the opportunity to speak to him. If Roy decides he wants to come to London - then bang, we're in for him. "

Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad also confirmed Keane would not be joining them. despite a short-term offer from the Asian champions.

"We approached the player but because of the rules in Europe, where the contract must be at least six months, the deal was not legal," said club president Sheikh Mansour Al Balawi.

its only talks....he has had the same talks with other clubs.

im an everton fan though and would be delighted if we sign him. but am still sceptical that we will sign him.

    Celtic is my prediction

what pay is Keano on? Everton can only offer him a fraction of it, i'd say. I hope he comes, we can use his organisation and fire breathing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,907 ✭✭✭bennyc

The Fiver has him in talks with Madrid on a six month deal
Could you imagine him standing in midfeild ball comes back to him and the two full backs take off up the wings " Come back ye shower of Langers" :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

I couldn't imagine him being a Real player, there's no real soul to the team, it's all about big profiles and celebraty status. They have no defensive discipline. He'd have them all murdered within a week!

Barcelona might show some late interest with the breaking news that Xavi is out for the rest of the season. What a dream move that would be.

    http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=330908&CPID=23&clid=&lid=2&title=Xavi+blow+for+Barca

By the way Barcelona have been cursed with knee injuries to their players over the last 18 months - Larsson, Edmilson, Gabri and now Xavi to name a few.

I wouldn't think money is his primary consideration at this stage of his career. A move to Everton makes sense as he can sign for them without the hassle of disrupting his family life. I would imagine that would be a major concern for him in deciding where he will go.

United play Everton at home next weekend and considering his comments about not wanting to play at Old Trafford I don't think he would want to make his debut in that. I wouldn't be surprised if he signed for the toffees for the rest of this season. I don't think he will commit to them for longer than that though and that would probably suit both parties.

had a good laugh at this, from bluekipper.com
Another flurry of calls to bluekipper this morning, and our source close to the club, he's a guy that lives in Goodison Road, well thats close, is saying our man Roy has been spotted going into the halls of Goodison this morning. Other call to us have spotted Keano on the Big One in Blackpool, and cruising up and down the Mersey, slagging Mancs off at the top of his voice. (02/12/05)

The Keane Spotters have been out in force. Paddy has been spotted in Broadgreen hospital (obviously taking a medical), at Lourdes hospital (taking another medical), at Bellefield (with his boots), at Goodison (looking at the executive boxes), a hotel near his Cheshire home (with Moyesy) and at a London conference centre (with Big Keith). All in one day. He's still as fit as when he was 21. Sign him. (30/11/05)

BBC reports a rumoured 18 month deal with Real:
Real Madrid are believed to be in pole position to sign former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane.

The BBC has learned that Keane has been in talks with the Spanish side regarding a potential 18-month deal.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/4486842.stm

But it also looks like the manager may be on the way out, so that may nip that in the bud: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4497208.stm

Real madrid could do alot worse than signing keane to sort out their group of muppets. They havent had that type of player since a certain chelsea layer left a few years back. Graveson wasnt up to scratch.

I would love him sign for celtic but madrid are in pole position.

just a quick question (i know he may be still injured) but would keane have to wait untill january to play for any team he may join? i dont know what the rules are with free agents, for some reason i have it in my mind they are different.

likewise. I dont think it would be a bad move for barca to sign him until the end of the season even now that xavi is out. Although they have marquez in the role that keane would be most likely to play

Aye but Marquez is a natural centre half. Not good enough for the Barca midfield.

Keane would rip Marquez out of that position in a second. Keane over Motta and Marquez any day.
