what kind of licence do you have?

17 year old male? Hope you've got lots of money cos you're going to get reamed for insurance. If I was you I'd keep with the smallest 1.0 litre shopping cart you can get until you have a year or two's no claims and a full licence.

ya i know the insurance will kill me. Im thinking of going as a named driver on my fathers insurance for a year and then hopefully get my own insurance when im 18. I dont even have my provisional license yet draffodx. Hopefully ill have upto 4,000 to spend on a car (excluding insurance)

I started driving a 1.4 Escort when i was 17 under my fathers policy and it wasnt too expensive.

    anyway heres a few options

    1.25l Fiesta

my first proper own car and i really enjoyed driving one was very nippy and it doesnt look too bad

    1.2l Clio

I like these cars, there nice looking and have that bit more power over a 1litre aswell

    1.0l Polo

good old fashion VW reliability you'd have no problem reselling a polo

They'd be the kind of cars I'd be looking for as a starter car, if you can stretch to the 1.4 market with insurance then you could go for a 1.4 polo after that you have your golf, civic, astra, megane, lancer but you would have to go for a 98/99 to afford these.

of the 1.4l market i personally would look for a clean civic

I hope you've taken the cost of VRT into account if you're importing a car. The revenue don't care what you paid for it, they will charge you VRT based on what THEY think the current market value of the car is.

oh ya ive taken all of that into account Stephen

I don't think you'll get a MKIV Golf for 4k either. You'd be doing well to get one for 7! :)

Have a look at a Seat Ibiza 1.0 3 door from '97 on - I ran one for 3 years, and they are a great car, dependable and with a lot more style and quality than any polo.

    Micra 1litre from '98 onward.
Amazing car - tonka toy tough
    needs next to no maintenance.

Been looking at the fluid levels in my sisters car because God knows she doesn't and they are still at the same level they were two months ago which is the last time I checked.
Nothing goes wrong and when it does it costs next to nothing to fix.

would the insurance be more for the 3door Seat Ibiza? if not, that would be a good one,as 2the Micra and Fiesta
