Proxy trouble?

I can't get any instant messaing programs to work on my computer, yet the internet works okay. Any idea what's up?

Uh, the Internet is 'faking it'.

Have you tried entering the proxy settings into the IM software?
(Possibility: the ports required for the IM software have been blocked..unlikely)

All the IM programs except for AIM, and even that took some time to connect.

proxy server is gone, just go into your connection settings and change to direct connection or whatever it is in IE.

No idea, there is no firewall anymore either, but we're walled out from the rest of the university.

Do online games work now? I wouldn't mind a game of Unreal Tournament. Though I've always been able to get Worms working, and a couple of MMORPGs.

I dunno, I think ITD upgraded to windows server 2003 so we can access everything we need from the exchange website so we don't need to be inside the firewall anymore. My 2 cents anyway.

No, proxy went back up.

I can see why they'd block out filesharing, but why online games? Most people don't play them very often, and they don't take up as much bandwidth as filesharing, use different ports (very often UDP in fact) and aren't illegal.

Considering how little there is to do around here, it might make up for that a bit.

UL is not a killjoy, it is a place to learn. Youre lucky youre not studying in germany. I was there recently, and all student accommodation is the same. There are no living rooms, so you have your bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. No facilities whatsoever for TV.

Indeed you are entitled to your opinion but wouldn't it be better to post something even vaguely constructive. I don't remember you posting in the UL fourm before but the 2 posts I've seen today haven't been hugely encouraging. Not much to say other than that.
