    That's how it starts.
We go back to your house.
    We check the charts,
And start to figure it out.

And if it's crowded, all the better,
because we know we're gonna be up late.
But if you're worried about the weather
then you picked the wrong place to stay.
    That's how it starts.

    And so it starts.
    You switch the engine on.
We set controls for the heart of the sun,
one of the ways we show our age.

And if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up
and I still don't wanna stagger home.
Then it's the memory of our betters
that are keeping us on our feet.

You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan,
and the next five years trying to be with your friends again.

You're talking 45 turns just as fast as you can,
yeah, I know it gets tired, but it's better when we pretend.

    It comes apart,
the way it does in bad films.
    Except in parts,
    when the moral kicks in.

Though when we're running out of the drugs
    and the conversation's winding away.
I wouldn't trade one stupid decision
for another five years of lies.

You drop the first ten years just as fast as you can,
and the next ten people who are trying to be polite.
When you're blowing eighty-five days in the middle of France,
Yeah, I know it gets tired only where are your friends tonight?

    And to tell the truth.
Oh, this could be the last time.
    So here we go,
like a sail's force into the night

And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool
on the road, there's always this.
And if I'm sewn into submission,
I can still come home to this.

And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand,
you can sleep on the plane or review what you said.
When you're drunk and the kids leave impossible tasks
you think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead."

Oh, if the trip and the plan come apart in your hand,
you look contorted on yourself your ridiculous prop.
You forgot what you meant when you read what you said,
and you always knew you were tired, but then,
    where are your friends tonight?

    Where are your friends tonight?
    Where are your friends tonight?

If I could see all my friends tonight,
If I could see all my friends tonight,
If I could see all my friends tonight,
If I could see all my friends tonight.

    "Ramona
    Come closer
    Shut softly your watery eyes
    The pangs of your sadness
Shall pass as your senses will rise
    The flowers of the city
    Though breathlike
    Get deathlike at times
And there’s no use in tryin’
    T’ deal with the dyin’
Though I cannot explain that in lines"

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
    (touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
    the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Jackson Browne - Late For The Sky
Now the words had all been spoken
And somehow the feeling still wasn't right
And still we continued on through the night
Tracing our steps from the beginning
Until they vanished into the air
Trying to understand how our lives had led us there

    Looking hard into your eyes
There was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise to feel so alone

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Awake again I can't pretend and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been dreaming I could make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
To be the one you need

Awake again I can't pretend and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
Of the bed where we both lie
    Late for the sky

    Beautiful.

    My favourite chunk of lyrics.

And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

    also...

    Manic Street Preachers - Yes

For sale? dumb ****'s same dumb questions
virgin? listen, all virgins are liars honey
and I don't know what I'm scared of or what I even enjoy
dulling, get money, but nothing turns out like you want it to

and in these plagued streets of pity you can buy anything
for $200 anyone can conceive a God on video
he's a boy, you want a girl so tear off his cock
tie his hair in bunches, **** him, call him Rita if you want

I eat and I dress and I wash and I still can say thank you
puking - shaking - sinking I still stand for old ladies
can't shout, can't scream, hurt myself to get pain out

    I 'T' them, 24:7, all year long
purgatory's circle, drowning here, someone will always say yes
funny place for the social, for the insects to start caring
just an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff

in these plagued streets of pity you can buy anything
for $200 anyone can conceive a God on video
he's a boy, you want a girl so tear off his cock
tie his hair in bunches, **** him, call him Rita if you want, if you want

I eat and I dress and I wash and I can still say thank you
puking - shaking - sinking I still stand for old ladies
can't shout, can't scream, hurt myself to get pain out
power produces desire, the weak have none
there's no lust in this coma even for a fifty
    solitude, solitude, the 11th commandment

the only certain thing that is left about me
there's no part of my body that has not been used
pity or pain, to show displeasure's shame
everyone I've loved or hated always seems to leave

and in these plagued streets of pity you can buy anything
for $200 anyone can conceive a God on video
he's a boy, you want a girl so tear off his cock
tie his hair in bunches, **** him, call him Rita if you want, if you want

power produces desire, the weak have none
there's no lust in this coma even for a fifty
    solitude, solitude, the 11th commandment
don't hurt, just obey, lie down, do as they say
may as well be heaven this hell, smells the same
these sunless afternoons I can't find myself.

Partially due to the execution of them, but Band Of Horses - Funeral

At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral
At every occasion once more is called the funeral
At every occasion I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion one brilliant day funeral

Really morose lyrics, but almost sound uplifting in the song

    Tool - Ænima

Some say the end is near
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon
    I certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bull**** three ring circus sideshow of
    Freaks

Here in this hopeless ****ing hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away
Any ****ing time, any ****ing day
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay

    Fret for your figure and
    Fret for your latte and
    Fret for your hairpiece and
    Fret for your lawsuit and
    Fret for your Prozac and
    Fret for your pilot and
    Fret for your contract and
    Fret for your car

    It's a
Bull**** three ring circus sideshow of
    Freaks

Here in this hopeless ****ing hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away
Any ****ing time, any ****ing day
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay

Some say a comet will fall from the sky
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dip-****s

Some say the end is near
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon
I certainly hope we will because
I sure could use a vacation from this

    Silly ****, stupid **** . . .

One great big festering neon distraction
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied

    Learn to swim

Mom's going to fix it all soon
Mom's coming around to put it back the way it ought to be

    Learn to swim

    **** L. Ron Hubbard and
    **** all his clones
    **** all those gun-toting
    Hip gangster wannabes

    Learn to swim

    **** retro anything
    **** your tattoos
    **** all you junkies and
    **** your short memory

    Learn to swim

    **** smiley glad-hands
    With hidden agendas
    **** these dysfunctional
    Insecure actresses

    Learn to swim

    Because I'm praying for mayhem
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I want to see the ground give way
I want to watch it all go down
Mom, please flush it all away
I want to see it go right in and down
I want to watch it go right in
Watch you flush it all away

Time to bring it down again
    Don't just call me pessimist
Try and read between the lines

    I can't imagine why you wouldn't
    Welcome any change, my friend

I want to see it all come down
    Suck it down
    Flush it down

I realise that you love everyone,
You picked me up and made me be someone,
You stole the peices from the broken Sun,
N you Picked one out and then you gave me one,
I thought that you thought I was the only one,
When you stole the peices from the broken sun,

    2nd verse:
I realised our friendships gonna change,
I anticipated them to go away,
I took My peice and I showed everyone,
But my pride n glory went as my light shone,
You looked at me and you just walked away,
I thought you were playing one of your silly games,
You took the peices from the broken sun,
And then you gave them all to everyone,

And then you gave them all to everyone,

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years:
    Every generation
    Blames the one before
    And all of their frustrations
    Come beating on your door

    I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
    I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him
    In the living years

    Crumpled bits of paper
    Filled with imperfect thought
    Stilted conversations
    I'm afraid that's all we've got

You say you just don't see it
    He says it's perfect sense
    You just can't get agreement
    In this present tense
We all talk a different language
    Talking in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
    We only sacrifice the future
    It's the bitterness that lasts

So don't yield to the fortunes
    You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
    On a different day
And if you don't give up,
    And don't give in
    You may just be OK

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

    I wasn't there that morning
    When my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say.
I think I caught his spirit
    Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him
    In the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

Any of the Spinal Tap songs crack me up:
The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
    That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
    Or so I have read

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo

    Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

I met her on Monday, 'twas my lucky bun day
    You know what I mean
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
    You know what I mean

My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game is waiting there inside her tights, yeah

    Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo

    Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

Chimes Of Freedom - Bob Dylan, would have to be up there. Most people stand in a door way during a lightening storm and they think "fukk that looks cool", Dylan thinks
Far between sundown's finish an' midnight's broken toll
We ducked inside the doorway, thunder crashing
As majestic bells of bolts struck shadows in the sounds
Seeming to be the chimes of freedom flashing
Flashing for the warriors whose strength is not to fight
Flashing for the refugees on the unarmed road of flight
An' for each an' ev'ry underdog soldier in the night
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

In the city's melted furnace, unexpectedly we watched
With faces hidden while the walls were tightening
As the echo of the wedding bells before the blowin' rain
Dissolved into the bells of the lightning
Tolling for the rebel, tolling for the rake
Tolling for the luckless, the abandoned an' forsaked
Tolling for the outcast, burnin' constantly at stake
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the mad mystic hammering of the wild ripping hail
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
Leaving only bells of lightning and its thunder
Striking for the gentle, striking for the kind
Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind
An' the unpawned painter behind beyond his rightful time
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the wild cathedral evening the rain unraveled tales
For the disrobed faceless forms of no position
Tolling for the tongues with no place to bring their thoughts
    All down in taken-for-granted situations
Tolling for the deaf an' blind, tolling for the mute
Tolling for the mistreated, mateless mother, the mistitled prostitute
For the misdemeanor outlaw, chased an' cheated by pursuit
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Even though a cloud's white curtain in a far-off corner flashed
An' the hypnotic splattered mist was slowly lifting
Electric light still struck like arrows, fired but for the ones
Condemned to drift or else be kept from drifting
Tolling for the searching ones, on their speechless, seeking trail
For the lonesome-hearted lovers with too personal a tale
An' for each unharmful, gentle soul misplaced inside a jail
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Starry-eyed an' laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look
Spellbound an' swallowed 'til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching ones whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an' worse
An' for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Could chose any two or three lines to stand alone as great lyrics,

"Flashing for the warriors whose strength is not to fight
Flashing for the refugees on the unarmed road of flight",

"Through the mad mystic hammering of the wild ripping hail
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder.
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
Leaving only bells of lightning and its thunder"

but to have line after line of poetry complementing each other for six verses straight is something a bit special. Little wonder it's described as Dylans Sermon on the Mount.

    D'you wear a black armband
    When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
    And in my first memories
    They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
    That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
    When everybody's fightin'
    For their promised land

Well the sun rose on the courtyard
And they all did hear him say
    You always was a Judas
    But I got you anyway
You may have got your silver
But I swear upon my life
    Your sister gave me diamonds
And I gave them to your wife '
    Oh Father please help me
    For I have done wrong
    The man's too big
    The man's too strong

    Here I am, Lord

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin
    My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
    Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them.
    They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my Word to them.
    Whom shall I send?

I the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
    My hand will save.
    Finest bread I will provide
    Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
    Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie

the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat

now what you hear is not a test--i'm rappin to the beat

see i am wonder mike and i like to say hello
to the black, to the white, the red, and the brown, the purple and yellow
but first i gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie
say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie
    let's rock, you dont stop

ya see i'm six foot one and i'm tons of fun
    and i dress to a t
ya see i got more clothes than muhammad ali and i dress so viciously
i got bodyguards, i got two big cars
    that definitely aint the wack
i got a lincoln continental and a sunroof cadillac
so after school, i take a dip in the pool
which really is on the wall
i got a color tv so i can see
    the knicks play basketball
hear me talkin bout checkbooks, credit cards
more money than a sucker could ever spend
but i wouldnt give a sucker or a bum from the rucker
not a dime til i made it again
ya go hotel motel whatcha gonna do today (say what)
ya say im gonna get a fly girl gonna get some spankin
drive off in a def oj
everybody go, hotel motel holiday inn
say if your girl starts actin up, then you take her friend
    master gee, am I mellow
its on you so what you gonna do

well it's on n on n on on n on
the beat dont stop until the break of dawn
    i said m-a-s, t-e-r, a g with a double e
i said i go by the unforgettable name
of the man they call the master gee
well, my name is known all over the world
by all the foxy ladies and the pretty girls
    i'm goin down in history
as the baddest rapper there could ever be
now i'm feelin the highs and ya feelin the lows
the beat starts gettin into your toes
ya start poppin ya fingers and stompin your feet
and movin your body while youre sittin in your seat
and the damn ya start doin the freak
i said damn, right outta your seat
then ya throw your hands high in the air
ya rockin to the rhythm, shake your derriere
ya rockin to the beat without a care
with the sureshot m.c.s for the affair
now, im not as tall as the rest of the gang
but i rap to the beat just the same
i dot a little face and a pair of brown eyes
all im here to do ladies is hypnotize
    singin on n n on n on n on
the beat dont stop until the break of dawn
singin on n n on n on on n on
like a hot buttered a pop da pop da pop dibbie dibbie
pop da pop pop ya dont dare stop
come alive yall gimme what ya got
i guess by now you can take a hunch
and find that i am the baby of the bunch
'but that's okay i still keep in stride
cause all i'm here to do is just wiggle your behind
    singin on n n on n on n on
the beat dont stop until the break of dawn
singin on n n on n on on n on
rock rock yall throw it on the floor
im gonna freak ya here im gonna feak ya there
im gonna move you outta this atmosphere
cause im one of a kind and ill shock your mind
ill put t-t-tickets in your behind
i said 1-2-3-4, come on girls get on the floor
a-come alive, yall a-gimme what ya got
cause im guaranteed to make you rock
i said 1-2-3-4 tell me wonder mike what are you waitin for?
i said a hip hop the hippie to the hippie
the hip hip hop, a you dont stop
the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
skiddlee beebop a we rock a scoobie doo
and guess what america we love you
cause ya rock and ya roll with so much soul
you could rock till you're a hundred and one years old
i dont mean to brag i dont mean to boast
but we like hot butter on our breakfast toast
    rock it up baby bubbah
baby bubbah to the boogie da bang bang da boogie
to the beat beat, its so unique
come on everybody and dance to the beat

i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie
to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop
rock it out baby bubbah to the boogie da bang bang
the boogie to the boogie da beat

i said i cant wait til the end of the week
when im rappin to the rhythm of a groovy beat
and attempt to raise your body heat
just blow your mind so that you cant speak
and do a thing but a rock and shuffle your feet
and let it change up to a dance called the freak
and when ya finally do come in to your rhythmic beat
rest a little while so ya dont get weak
i know a man named hank
he has more rhymes than a serious bank
so come on hank sing that song
to the rhythm of the boogie da bang bang da bong

well, im imp the dimp the ladies pimp
the women fight for my delight
but im the grandmaster with the three mcs
that shock the house for the young ladies
and when you come inside, into the front
you do the freak, spank, and do the bump
and when the sucker mcs try to prove a point

we're treacherous trio, we're the serious joint
a from sun to sun and from day to day
i sit down and write a brand new rhyme
because they say that miracles never cease
    i've created a devastating masterpiece
i'm gonna rock the mike til you cant resist
everybody, i say it goes like this
well i was comin home late one dark afternoon
a reporter stopped me for a interview
she said she's heard stories and she's heard fables
that i'm vicious on the mike and the turntables
this young reporter i did adore
so i rocked a vicious rhyme like i never did before
she said damn fly guy im in love with you
the casanova legend must have been true
i said by the way baby what's your name
said i go by the name of lois lane
and you could be my boyfiend you surely can
just let me quit my boyfriend called superman
    i said he's a fairy i do suppoose
flyin through the air in pantyhose
he may be very sexy or even cute
but he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit
i said you need a man who's got finesse
and his whole name across his chest
he may be able to fly all through the night
but can he rock a party til the early light
he cant satisfy you with his little worm
but i can bust you out with my super sperm
i go do it, i go do it, i go do it, do it , do it
an i'm here an i'm there i'm big bang hank, im everywhere
just throw your hands up in the air
and party hardy like you just dont care
let's do it dont stop yall a tick a tock yall you dont stop
go hotel motel what you gonna do today(say what)
im gonna get a fly girl gonna get some spank drive off in a def oj
everybody go hotel motel holiday inn
you say if your girl starts actin up then you take her friend
i say skip, dive, what can i say
i cant fit em all inside my oj
so i just take half and bust them out
i give the rest to master gee so he could shock the house
it was twelve o'clock one friday night
i was rockin to the beat and feelin all right
everybody was dancin on the floor
doin all the things they never did before
and then this fly fly girl with a sexy lean
she came into the bar, she came into the scene
as she traveled deeper inside the room
all the fellas checked out her white sasoons
she came up to the table, looked into my eyes
then she turned around and shook her behind
so i said to myself, its time for me to release
my vicious rhyme i call my masterpiece
and now people in the house this is just for you
a little rap to make you boogaloo
now the group ya hear is called phase two
and let me tell ya somethin we're a helluva crew
once a week we're on the street
just a-cuttin' the jams and making it free
for you to party ya got to have the movies
so we'll get right down and give you the groove
for you to dance you gotta get hype
so we'll get right down for you tonight
now the system's on and the girls are there
ya definitely have a rockin affair
but let me tell ya somethin there's still one fact
that to have a party ya got to have a rap
so when the party's over you're makin it home
and tryin to sleep before the break of dawn
and while ya sleepin ya start to dream
and thinkin how ya danced on the disco scene
my name appears in your mind
yeah, a name you know that was right on time
it was phase two just a doin a do
rockin ya down cause ya know we could
to the rhythm of the beat that makes ya freak
come alive girls get on your feet
to the rhythm of the beat to the beat the beat
to the double beat beat that it makes ya freak
to the rhythm of the beat that says ya go on
on n on into the break of dawn
now i got a man comin on right now
    he's guaranteed to throw down
he goes by the name of wonder mike
come on wonder mike do what ya like

like a can of beer that's sweeter than honey
like a millionaire that has no money
like a rainy day that is not wet
like a gamblin fiend that does not bet
like dracula with out his fangs
like the boogie to the boogie without the boogie bang
like collard greens that dont taste good
like a tree that's not made out of wood
like goin up and not comin down
is just like the beat without the sound no sound
to the beat beat, ya do the freak
everybody just rock and dance to the beat
have you ever went over a friends house to eat
and the food just aint no good
i mean the macaroni's soggy the peas are mushed
and the chicken tastes like wood
so you try to play it off like you think you can
    by sayin that youre full
and then your friend says momma he's just being polite
he aint finished uh uh that's bull
so your heart starts pumpin and you think of a lie
and you say that you already ate
and your friend says man there's plenty of food
so you pile some more on your plate
while the stinky foods steamin your mind starts to dreamin
of the moment that it's time to leave
and then you look at your plate and your chickens slowly rottin
into something that looks like cheese
oh so you say that's it i got to leave this place
i dont care what these people think
im just sittin here makin myself nauseous
with this ugly food that stinks
so you bust out the door while its still closed
still sick from the food you ate
and then you run to the store for quick relief
    from a bottle of kaopectate
and then you call your friend two weeks later
to see how he has been
and he says i understand about the food
baby bubbah but we're still friends
with a hip hop the hippie to the hippie
the hip hip a hop a you dont stop the rockin
    to the bang bang boogie
say up jump the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie the beat
i say hank can ya rock
can ya rock to the rhythm that just dont stop
can ya hip me to the shoobie doo
    i said come on
i go to the halls and then ring the bell
because i am the man with the clientele
and if ya ask me why i rock so well
a big bang, i got clientele
and from the time i was only six years old
i never forgot what i was told
it was the best advice that i ever had
it came from my wise dear old dad
he said sit down punk i wanna talk to you
and dont say a word until i'm through
now there's a time to laugh a time to cry
a time to live and a time to die
a time to break and a time to chill
to act civilized or act real ill
but whatever ya do in your lifetime
ya never let a mc steal your rhyme
so from sixty six til this very day
ill always remember what he had to say
so when the sucker mcs try to chump my style
i let them know that i'm versatile
i got style finesse and a little black book
that's filled with rhymes and i know you wanna look
but there's a thing that separates you from me
    and that's called originality
because my rhymes are on from what you heard
i didnt even bite and not a god d--m word
and i say a little more later on tonight
so the sucker mc's can bite all night
a tick a tock yall a beat beat yall
a lets rock yall ya dont stop
ya go hotel motel whatcha gonna do today (say what)
ya say im gonna get a fly girl gonna get some spankin
drive off in a def oj
everybody go hotel motel holiday inn
ya say if your girl starts actin up then you take her friends
a like that yall to the beat yall
beat beat yall ya dont stop
a master gee am I mellow?
its on you so whatcha gonna do

well like johnny carson on the late show
a like frankie croker in stereo
well like the barkay's singin holy ghost
the sounds to throw down they're played the most

its like my man captain sky
whose name he earned with his super sperm
we rock and we dont stop
get off yall im here to give you whatcha got
to the beat that it makes you freak
and come alive girl get on your feet
a like a perry mason without a case
like farrah fawcett without her face

like the barkays on the mike
like gettin right down for you tonight
like movin your body so ya dont know how
right to the rhythm and throw down

like comin alive to the master gee
the brother who rocks so viciously
i said the age of one my life begun
at the age of two i was doin the do
at the age of three it was you and me
rockin to the sounds of the master gee
at the age of four i was on the floor
givin all the freaks what they bargained for
at the age of five i didnt take no jive
with the master gee its all the way live
at the age of six i was a pickin up sticks
rappin to the beat my stick was fixed
at the age of seven i was rockin in heaven dontcha know i went off
i got right on down to the beat you see
gettin right on down makin all the girls
just take of their clothes to the beat the beat
to the double beat beat that makes you freak
at the age of eight i was really great
cause every night you see i had a date
at the age of nine i was right on time
cause every night i had a party rhyme
goin on n n on n on on n on
the beat dont stop until the break of dawn
    a sayin on n n on n on on n on...
like a hot buttered de pop de pop de pop
    a saying on n n on n on on n on
cause i'm a helluva man when i'm on the mike
i am the definate feast delight
cause i'm a helluva man when i'm on the mike
i am the definate feast delight
come to the master gee you see
the brother who rocks so viciously

"And now I feel this lady fair
    Can never more be mine
Long gone are nights in my lonely bed
    All suffering and crying
And though I fear that through this life
    She'll only call me friend
'Till I'm dead and buried in my grave
    My Love will never end"

I walked in and all I smelled was Liz Claiborne
And seen her spread across the bed naked watching gay porn
She said "Come her big boy, lets get acquainted"
I turned around to run, twisted my ankle and sprained it
She came at me at full speed, nothing could stop her
I shot her five times and every bullet bounced off her
I started to beg "No, please let go"
But she swallowed my ****ing leg whole like an egg roll
With one leg left, now I'm hoppin around crippled
I grabbed my pocket knife and sliced off her right nipple
Just trying to buy me some time, then I remembered this magic trick
Den Den Den Den Den Den, Go go gadget dick!
Whipped that **** out, and ain't no doubt about it
It hit the ground and caused an earthquake and power outage
I shouted "Now bitch, lets see who gets the best!"
Stuffed that **** in crooked and ****ed that fat slut to death (Ah!! Ah!)
    Come here bitch!
    Come here!

The Load Out - By Jackson Browne

Start to finish a lyrical masterpiece

    The River - The Boss
"I got a job working construction, for the Johnstown company
But lately there ain't that much work, on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important, well mister they just vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember, Mary acts like she don't care"

"Now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse"

    The Island - Paul Brady
"Up here we sacrifice our children, to feed the worn out dreams of yesterday
Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone
But hey don't listen to me, this wasn't meant to be no sad song"

The Magdalene Laundries - Joni Mitchell
"These bloodless brides of Jesus, if they could just once glimpse their groom
They'd drop the stones, concealed behind the rosary
They wilt the grass they walk upon, they leach the light out of a room
They'd like to wash those girls, down the drains of the Magdalene Laundry"

Here's Looking At You Kid - Gaslight Anthem
"You can tell Gail if she calls, that I'm famous now from all of these rock and roll songs
And even is that's a lie, she should've given me a try"

    Rosalita - The Boss (Again!)
"Now you're Daddy says he knows I don't have any money
Well tell him this is his last chance, to get his daughter in a fine romance
Because the record company Rosie, just gave me a big advance"

    For the fun element.

    SUICIDAL TENDENCIES
    Lights Camera Revolution (1990)
Thank you good sir, you reminded me of one...

    Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized (1983)

Sometimes I try to do things, and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted to
And I get real frustrated, it's like, I try hard to do it and like I take my time,
But it just doesn't work out the way I wanted to, it's like I try real hard
But it doesn't work out, and everything I do and everything I try, it never turns out
And it's like, I need time to figure these things out,
But there's always someone there going:
    - Hey Mike, you know, we been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately,
Y'know? And it's like, maybe get away.
Maybe you should talk about it, you'd feel a lot better.
    And I go:
    - No, it's ok, y'know? I'll figure it out.
Just leave me alone I'll figure it out, y'know? I'll just work it out myself
    They go:
    - Well, if you wanna talk about it, I'll be here, y'know? And you'll probably feel a lot better to talk about it, why don't you talk about it?
    And I go:
    - No, I don't want to, I'm ok, I'll figure it out myself!
And they just keep on bugging me,
and they just keep on bugging me and it builds up inside,
    It builds up inside...

    So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
    You won't have any say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way

    I'm not crazy - institution
    You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

I was sitting in my room, and I was like staring at the walls thinking about everything
But then again I was thinking about nothing, and then my mom came in
And I didn't notice she was there and she calls my name and I didn't hear her
    And then she started screaming:
    - Mike, Mike!
    And I go:
    - What, what's the matter?
    She goes:
    - What's the matter with you?
    I say:
    - Nothing mom.
    She goes:
    - Don't tell me nothing, you're on drugs!
    I go:
    - No mom, I'm not on drugs, I'm ok, I'm just thinking, y'know? Why don't you get me a Pepsi?
    She goes:
    - No, you're on drugs!
    I go:
    - Mom, I'm ok, I'm just thinking.
    And she goes:
    - No, you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people won't be acting that way!
    I go:
    - Mom, just get me a Pepsi. All I wanted was a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me.
All I wanted was a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me, just one Pepsi.

They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy

    I'm not crazy - institution
    You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up a chair and they sat down, they go:
    - Mike, we need to talk to you.
    And I go:
    - Ok, what's the matter?
    They go:
    - Me and your mom, we been noticing lately you've been having alot of
problems, and you've been goin' off for no reason, and we're afraid that
you're going to hurt somebody, and we're afraid that you're gonna hurt
yourself, so we decided that it would be in your best interest if we put
you somewhere where you could get the help that you need...
    And I go:
    - Wait, what are we talking about?! We decided?! My best interest?!
How can you know what my best interest is?
How can you say what my best interest is?
What are you trying to say? I'm crazy? When I went to your schools,
I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning facilities.
So how can you say I'm crazy?

They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
    Mentally I'll be dead

    I'm not crazy - institution
    You're the one who's crazy - institution
You're driving me crazy - institution

They take me to an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

It doesn't matter I'll probably get hit by a car anyway.

This song by Mick Flannery "Take in on the chin" is just genius...

That song is just amazing. Mick Flannery is painfully underrated.

There's a distinct lack of Tom Waits here:
    Everything You Can Think:
Everything you can think of is true
    Before the ocean was blue
We were lost in a flood
    Run red with your blood
    Nigerian skeleton crew

Everything you can think of is true
The dish ran away with the spoon
Dig deep in your heart for that little red glow
    We’re decomposing as we go

Everything you can think of is true
And fishes make wishes on you
We’re fighting our way up dreamland’s spine
    Red flamingos and expensive wine

Everything you can think of is true
The baby’s asleep in your shoe
Your teeth are buildings with yellow doors
Your eyes are fish on a creamy shore

The imagery in that song is just mad at times. He's such a brilliant lyricist.

    And Small Change:

Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight,
And nobody flinched down by the arcade
And the marquees weren't weeping, they went stark-raving mad,
And the cabbies were the only ones that really had it made
And his cold trousers were twisted, and the sirens high and shrill,
And crumpled in his fist was a five-dollar bill
And the naked mannequins with their Cheshire grins,
And the raconteurs and roustabouts said "Buddy, come on in, 'cause
'Cause the dreams ain't broken down here now, they're walking with a limp
Now that Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight"

And nobody flinched down by the arcade
And the burglar alarm's been disconnected,
And the newsmen start to rattle
And the cops are telling jokes about some whorehouse in Seattle
And the fire hydrants plead the Fifth Amendment
And the furniture is bargains galore
But the blood is by the jukebox on an old linoleum floor
And what a hot rain on Forty-Second Street,
And now the umbrellas ain't got a chance
And the newsboy's a lunatic with stains on his pants, 'cause
'Cause Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight

And no one's gone over to close his eyes
And there's a racing form in his pocket,
Circled "Blue Boots" in the third
And the cashier at the clothing store didn't say a word
As the siren tears the night in half, and someone lost his wallet
Well, a surveillance of assailance, it that's what you want to call it
And the whores hike up their skirts and fish for drug-store prophylactics
With their mouths cut just like razor blades and their eyes are like stilettos
And her radiator's steaming and her teeth are in a wreck, and nah,
She won't let you kiss her, but what the hell do you expect?
And the Gypsies are tragic and if you want to buy perfume,
Well, they'll bark you down like carneys, sell you Christmas cards in June, but
But Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight

And his headstone's a gumball machine,
No more chewing gum or baseball cards or overcoats or dreams
Someone's hosing down the sidewalk, and he's only in his teens, 'cause
'Cause Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight

And a fistful of dollars can't change that,
And someone copped his watch fob, and someone got his ring
And the newsboy got his porkpie Stetson hat
And the tuberculosis old men at the Nelson wheeze and cough
And someone will head south until this whole thing cools off, 'cause
'Cause Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight, yeah,
Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight

It's more a poem than it is a song. The rhythm of it is brilliant.

And if you want some fantastical imagery in lyrics, I think Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds rules supreme. I love the obscurity.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
    A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
    Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
    And she's gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
    Aaaaahhhhh...

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmellow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
    That grow so incredibly high

Newpaper taxis appear on the shore
    Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
    And you're gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
    Aaaaahhhhh...

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes

There's a distinct lack of Tom Waits here:

There's been six so far, eight including those two. An average of one per page ain't too bad! *

*Although there is NO NO NO such thing as too much Waits!!

With that in mind, I can't believe I didn't include him in mine:

    Hold On
"They hung a sign up in our town,
If you live it up you won't live it down
So she left Monte Rio son
Just like a bullet leaves a gun"

"Well go ahead and call the cops
You don't meet nice girls in coffee shops"

    Innocent When You Dream

"Running through the graveyard, we dance my friends and I
We're swore we'd be together, until the day we died"

And...well...every other Waits song except The Road To Peace, a minor error in an otherwise perfect career.

Geraldine by James Allan of Glasvegas.

"When your sparkle evades your soul
I'll be at your side to console
When your standing on the window ledge
I'll talk you back, back from the edge

I will turn, I will turn your tide
Be your Shepherd, I swear I'll be your guide
When you're lost in the deep and darkest place around
May my words walk you home safe and sound

When you say that I'm no good and you feel like walking
I need to make sure you know it's just the prescription talking
When your feet decide to walk you on the wayward side
Climbing up upon the stairs and down the downward slide

I will turn, I will turn your tide
Do all that I can to heal you inside
I will be the angel on your shoulder
My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker

    I see you need me
    I know you do

I will turn, I will turn your tide
Do all that I can to heal you inside
I will be the angel on your shoulder
My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker"

    U2 - One
    Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
    You got someone to blame
    You say...

    One love

    One life
    When it's one need
    In the night
    One love
    We get to share it
    Leaves you baby if you
    Don't care for it

    Did I disappoint you

Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
    Well it's...

    Too late

    Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
    We get to
    Carry each other
    Carry each other
    One...

Have you come here for forgiveness

Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

    Did I ask too much

    More than a lot
    You gave me nothing
    Now it's all I got
    We're one
    But we're not the same
    Well we
    Hurt each other
    Then we do it again
    You say
    Love is a temple
    Love a higher law
    Love is a temple
    Love the higher law
    You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what you got
When all you got is hurt

    One love

    One blood
    One life
You got to do what you should
    One life
    With each other
    Sisters
    Brothers
    One life
    But we're not the same
    We get to
    Carry each other
    Carry each other

    One...life

    Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
    This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
    But it's over
Just hear this and then I'll go
You gave me more to live for
    More than you'll ever know

    This is our last embrace

Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because I didn't know you at all

    Kiss me, please kiss me

But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

Did you say "No, this can't happen to me,"

And did you rush to the phone to call
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind
Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime

Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memories
Offer signs that it's over... it's over

The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
    Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
    And they're young and alive
    Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
    Because I haven't got one
    Anymore

    Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
    Want to see life
    Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it's not my home, it's their
Home, and I'm welcome no more

    And if a double-decker bus
    Crashes into us
    To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
    And if a ten-ton truck
    Kills the both of us
    To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

    Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don't care
    I don't care, I don't care
    And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
    Just couldn't ask)

    Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don't care
    I don't care, I don't care
    Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
    Because I haven't got one, da ...
    Oh, I haven't got one

    And if a double-decker bus
    Crashes into us
    To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
    And if a ten-ton truck
    Kills the both of us
    To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out

    JOY DIVISION - TRANSMISSION

    Radio, live transmission.
    Radio, live transmission.

Listen to the silence, let it ring on.
Eyes, dark grey lenses frightened of the sun.
We would have a fine time living in the night,
    Left to blind destruction,
    Waiting for our sight.

And we would go on as though nothing was wrong.
And hide from these days we remained all alone.
Staying in the same place, just staying out the time.
    Touching from a distance,
    Further all the time.

Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio...

Well I could call out when the going gets tough.
The things that we've learnt are no longer enough.
No language, just sound, that's all we need know,
To synchronise love to the beat of the show.

    And we could dance.

Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio

Dave Couse from the A-House Album I am The Greatest (c.1992)

"I wish I was born before all the great ideas were used.."

All these years later I still use it as a phrase when beaten to the punch:)

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
    I know you'll be a sun
    In somebody else's sky
    But why
    Why
    Why can't it be
    Why can't it be mine

When I hear the song its like someone has grabbed my heart and is squeezing it, as a result I havn't listened to the song in ages. Just cant.
