people should realize a few things about eve before thinking of playing

    1. its not a leveling system.

    2. unless you are willing to put at least 2-3 months in you wont see the best the game has to offer.

    3. you will get bored early on, mining/missions can get tedious.

    4. it IS worth it in the long run.

ive been playing 6 months now my character is about to pass 5 million skillpoints. i can fly every normal ship up to a battleship (only 1 ship bigger than it) and im training to fly all the elite ships (by end of december ill be able to fly every combat ship for my race minus the dreadnaught) i am able to have some serious fun doing instances/statics and will be getting seriously into pvp soon.

The way i started playing was the week before i got thegame i read up on the forums and guide sites. i spent my first 2 months in absolute tedium doing low end missions and training the 'learning' skills.

once they were done everything else trained faster and since i finished those ive had tonnes of fun.

    anyhooo, fun to be had.

i still have a 26m SP character on the server. I just quit because i got sick of it. username is Kolobos fyi.

Eve is either all or nothing. "Casual" play doesnt suit this game if you want to achieve more than just having a few million isk.

Whole game is the trial, your account only lasts two weeks. It's very expensive after that, 20 euro a month. Couldn't justify that myself, the trial had me interested tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

20 euro a month? are you subscribed to the idiot plan?

you get 14 day free trial
when the 14 days are up
you pay 20 euro TO BUY THE GAME
you then get your first month free
its then 14 euro per month

One thing you have to realise about EVE is that it is very unfriendly to the carebear type players. Stabbed in the back and being ripped off are part and parcel of the game. Although I prefer these sort of unfriendly games.

Somtimes people are real assholes in the game for example: I was trying to get a friend of mine a cyclone(battle cruiser)so we went on one of the trade channels and said" wanna buy a cyclone for 22mil" and we get invited to a chat with i think his name is vogon and he seems like a good guy he's got a site and in his bio he calls himself a ship builder. He said he'd get a guy to deliver the ship but we have to put a deposit of 2mil so he can pay his "delvery man" so we give him the 2mi and he said he'd deliver it in 2 hours so i add the "deivery man" to my buddy's list and find out he's not on. Then i check out the site and his check the guest book and all it is is people saying "ill give give anyone 2mil to pod this bastered!!!"

here's his site if anyone's interested

But that lesson will teach you a real world lesson. That is do serious research before handing over large sums of cash to a person you have never met before.

Its amazing how many people are totally oblivious to scams in real life until they get slapped in an MMOG.

iv been playing this for the past 2 months great game all in all takes time though but its worth it ;)

My name in the game is Darkireland if anyone wishs to contact me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

honestly, dont buy anything off trade channels is the best lesson there, go for direct person to person sales, hand over the cash in the transaction or buy it off escrow.

if you want a cyclone for 22 mill im sure i can sort you out i have a few friends in naga and ill probably be rejoining species as stain alliance is about to surrender \o/

i hang around the systems between tennen/oursalag. 20 days till my miner character can fly a covetor and 20 days till my combat character can fly a deimos (heavy assault cruiser) \o/

december is going to be fun :)

guys got to make a living.

    possible criminal ventures in eve

    Ore/loot theft

    Gank traps

Blueprint scams (selling copies as originals)

Escrow scams (putting false labels on them)

Mission scams (making the time limit too short on a long transport of useless and worthless cargo, so the timer runs out and they keep the collateral)

    Piracy+piracy

ive looked into a lot of these and its fairly easy to spot the traps, if you feel at any time dodgey about a deal double check the details.

chill. The sign up site is unclear about the recurring cost, only saying there is one.

hah, you got conned. Would you give 200 euro to some guy you met in a parking lot with just a promise that he'll get someone to deliver whatever he's selling? :) 22m is quite cheap for a battlecruiser anyway, as far as I remember it's just at cost price!
honestly, dont buy anything off trade channels

You can get some good deals off the trade channels, you just need to arrange some place the exchange can take place. Getting them to escrow the goods is the best imo, you can inspect them before traveling 20 or 30 jumps to find someone has made a lame attempt to con you.

I have to say that is one of the reasons I like eve, it's just so open. Although ore theft will be getting shot in the ass with criminal flagging for stealing from anothers jetcan.

just picked him up one for 22 mil :)

Once your 14 day trial is over, can you still get a new 14 day trial again?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Might be possible but you would be starting from scratch again, which would be a bit pointless.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,346 ✭✭✭Rev Hellfire

Must say eve is one of teh few games I keep coming back to, its been subscribe, unsubscribe, resubscribe form the start. I'm even thinking of resubscribing again for the christmans period.

I've a crap character, but I'm strangely fond of it none the less.

the most important thing you can do, is pay close attention to the tutorial. most tutorials can be skipped over, but this one is very important. also, you get a decent low level implant, and enough cash for a better frig, after finishing it.

then do some lvl1 combat missions (once you get a tech2/3 frig), which should bring in some cash, or dabble in some mining if your into that (although its easier to make money from combat missions early on)

This gets my vote. It really is a game where you are going to cripple yourself getting help too early.

I love the fact that its not level driven. Its not for power levelers. I like the fact that a new character can defeat an older one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

maze the only way a new character will beat an older one is if hes already in a pod....

dont get me wrong, but someone with say 5 million skillpoints is going to easily outmatch someone with 300-400k.

whats the irish chat channel??? (character name is jaggeh)
im not playing atm because im training for Heavy assault cruisers :/
my alt is training to use a covetor :v:

started playing again this morning....all i have is a meager 2.8 mill skill points...spent half my cash reinsuring my ships...:/

20 min into my first cargo run i get attacked by some player in a tristan frigate....first shot missed...second shot barely dented my shields...told him to bugger off at that point( locked weapons on him) he blabbed off something about how my cargo belonged to him...2 shots...boom....Intellligence of lowlevel player pirates hasnt gone up much in the last year....

Currently running around caldari space doing cargo runs

think I have 3 ships :) I tend to make them go boom often. Travelling through 0.2 space I got stopped by two pirates. They told me to hand over my cargo (at this point I select self destruct). I told them I had none but if they let me pod and leave I would leave the ship as payment and gave a sob story about how I was new and still training a skill and didn't want to loose it.

I really hope one of the prats got into it when I left.

Ahahaha, I didnt know you could do that.

I have barely 90,000 skill points.
I should have cruiser by tomorrow. I just wont be able to afford to buy one.
    Gunning around in my destroyer.
I wish I had researched it a bit more before I started.... I went Minmatar, they are ok, but their ships are so damn ugly. And I want lasers not projectiles.
Ah well, I will have my Dreadnought soon enough :D

just wondering what happens when your big expensive battleship gets blown up? Do you respawn in the hospital with an exp penalty or something?:D

Depends if your not podded you just lose your very expensive ship (yey for insurance) if you are podded you use your clone which if up to date keeps all your skill points but no implants which are destroyed you also have to buy a new clone which can be quite expensive.

So start training them :) Skills aren't limited by race just cash really. I agree, mimatar ships are damn ugly. What's with the sails!? and their titan.... well it's said to be quite phallic in it's shape.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,220 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Gallente and Amarr ships are the coolest looking, imo. especially the thorax/deimos...man i love that ship.

as for insurance, it doesnt always work as you'd like. for example, my enyo will give me about 3mill back if i lost it, and it cost me 22million to buy. its similar with other specialists ships.

also, never give your brutix, worth 30mill, to a friend who says he's only gonna mine in it...trust me, you wont like coming back to an email from your insurance company, saying you dont get squat since you werent flying it at the time
