Impressive figures alright, the cold seems to be very localised in this snap.

Was -2c this morning in the back garden and it took a good 15 mins hacking at the car windows with an icescraper and de-icer spray this morning to clear the car windows (the car thermometer was registering -3 but its not very accurate when stationary I think). Yet Dublin Airport was +3 at the same time and presumably had a light ground frost.

Interesting weather, tbh I dont like the frost and slippery roads as a L driver (had first slip on the road this morning ..thankfully was early so didnt hit anything or anyone on the almost empty road)..give me snow and an excuse not to make it into work and i'll happily make a snowman instead!!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I should have mentioned this earlier, but the 8.5hrs sunshine recorded at Cork Airport on 29th Jan 2006, is the highest daily Jan amount ever measured in Ireland

Sunshine has been absent in places for a week and more.

Rosslare has recorded no sunshine during the 7 days from Jan 31st to Feb 6th, Birr has gone a day longer without sunshine, with the sunless spell beginning on the 30th.

Like Rosslare, I’ve recorded none in Ashford Co. Wicklow for the same period, and as today Feb 7th has been sunless, this makes it 8 days on the trot.

I’ve no idea how unusual it is to have a weekly period without sunshine, but I think it’s even more notable with the fact that it’s Rosslare.

Got to be worth noting that the -1.0C at Rosslare this morning is first sub zero air temp at the station since Feb 2004 and lowest in March since -1.6C in 1995

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

-2.3C this morning at Rosslare lowest March temp at the station since 1980.

With wind tending to be from east again, I don't expect it to be as cold tonight though other parts of country will.

Temp at least as low as -16.4C recorded in Scotland this morning.

Unbroken sunshine across much of Ireland.

Dublin AP 8.8 hours. Sunniest day on record for November
Kilkenny 8.7h Sunniest Nov day since 1968
Casement 8.4h 2nd sunniest on record, after 8.5h in 1968

I had 8.6h, and considering I loose exposure at both ends of day, it'll certainly never be bettered in November.

I'm not going to give all the stats, its just too much.
    Full report from Met Eireann

It was the driest April at 2 stations.
    Casement 5.4mm
    and Shannon AP 11.2mm

It was warmest April nearly everywhere inc Phoenix Park where previous record of 10.2C set in 1865 and 1987 was broken by 1.0C

All stations bar Valentia had a mean higher than the normal for May and it was warmer at many stations than May last year!

It was sunniest April on record nearly everywhere. And by huge margins in places. Some examples
Dublin AP 239hrs, previous highest 205hrs
    Casement 230hrs (198hrs)
    Rosslare 243hrs (232hrs)

Incidently I recorded 246hrs with Campbell Stokes, though the official reading of cards could vary by a couple hours. My 2nd sunniest month on record, in my 4th year now. Though that month, July 06 has an extra day, so daily mean was higher.

Finally a couple interesting daily stats, one of them very odd considering how dry a month it was.
Belmullet recorded 23.5mm rain on 25th, its wettest April day on record (1956). The following day, 26th, 14.1 hrs sunshine was recorded, the joint highest daily value on record for April at any staion

Had 0.3mm here today, the first recordable rainfall in 38 days

    While I'm here.

Roches Point 23.1C, highest on record for May, stationed opened 18??
Rosslare 22.3 highest on record for May, stationed opened 1957, previous highest 21.1c
Cork Airport 23.5C, 0.1C behind record set in 1991

I worded that wrong (too late too tired) was meant to say windiest May day instead of May as a whole.Personally i dont remember a day in May being as gusty with a high mean before.
First for me here.High 10 min avg of 25mph.
