Seems to be a problem getting onto servers outside Ireland this morning , some but not all . The GFF server seems fine but all the Multiplay are borked ( what does borked mean ) . I presume this would translate down to surfing aswell .

So , I get on the phone and phone support . I figure , better let them know because it might be a problem with the routing somewhere between here and there and maybe something could be done to investigate .

As has become the norm now I get the usual response from support , " can you open the web page" , me: "yes" , "then there is no problem with the broadband" . So I try to explain and after about 10 minutes of him saying that the problem wasn't with the BB , I finally get him to do a tracert and he comes back with the trace complete so no problem . But I persist ( as I am known to ) and he is getting the same response's as me ie:

    5 242 ms 239 ms 236 ms linx-gw0.enta.net [195.66.224.151]

He finally concedes this but says he does not know what he can or is supposed to do about it . So I ask if he could escalate it to his supervisor and see if they would investigate it .

Wondering if anymore ppl are seeing this ?

    John

John i'm having the exact same problem! I'm also in Limerick btw.

I play on a game server in the UK all the time (ip 195.20.109.77). And had pings of 70 or less until today. VERY annoying.

    Ok so tracert that ip, and the pings spike here also;
    5 242 ms 239 ms 236 ms linx-gw0.enta.net [195.66.224.151]

Well actually mine is a bit higher. Is there a solution here?? Ive been on to eircom about it, "its not our fault" is the standard reply it seams.....

Let me know jonski if you sort it.

I would really need one of the more tech literate from here to answer this question . I am of the understanding that this is a problem with the routing @ 195.66.224.151 and from speaking to a friend in XS4@LL support , if they got this call they would follow it through and find out why their product was falling down there .

But to be honest I have a very simplistic view of how it all works . I rekon there is a box somewhere that eircom route's to and today a mouse got into it and is chewing on the wires as we speak/type .

    John.

Do you reckon more phone calls to them would do any good? If it is indeed their problem...

    Thanks for that, bloddy eircom.

Pings look fine there, so it must be a problem with eircoms routing

btw i just got off the phone with them again. Told me he already had calls about this today and its not an eircom problem

    Gonzo who is your ISP?

Just got off the phone there with eircom (HALF AN HOUR!)

Tried everything. Apparently the DNS servers in Limerick were changed last week, so i tried the old servers, didnt do anything. Wasnt really expecting it to as this problem only occured today!

Anyway it does indeed seem that this enta server is the weak link. I was told that he would send the info off and hopefilly get it sorted (!)

btw i said that IB routing to the ip 195.20.109.77 was fine as were the pings, and was told that they use eircoms routers etc???? how could this be the case?? There is no problem with IB users (thanks Steffano2002, irlrobins) pinging that ip....

Anyway, i contacted enta.net. Was told he'd look into it.

And now its working again :)

Yup it does seem to be sorted now .

you contacted enta.net yourself ? , tell us more about how that went , will make for good retelling to the eircom boys tomorrow .

Well i just got their 24 hour tech support number from their website. Was talking to some guy saying that i was having a problem with an enta server. Told him the IP address. He got a low ping considering he was on the network

Anyway, he pinged my ip and was getting similar ping spikes. Said he'd take a screenshot of what was happening, and get someone to look at it. Dont know if he did or not but hey its working now :v:

Maybe this is/has been done may times before by other ppl but in my 3+ years of daily reading this board I have never read the likes of it before . Good on you .
