    Hi Guys n' Gals,

Back to this question of installing a heat recovery ventilation recovery system again. Got a quote today for Ventaxia system €7k&Vat for supply, fit etc. Might come down a little in price. Our house is a substantial 4800 sq ft (well it's a house a good sizes grandparents apartment actually). What are your thoughts on the cost? Any other recommendations please? Thanks a mill.

is it the ventaxia airminder?? from what i've heard this is a very good system, and unlike most other MHRVs, it has clever controls, so i'm not surprised at the price.

another clever and highly regarded system is done by nuaire.

good, basic systems are Villavent, Rega and Starkey.

Have you seen the Temovex systems?
Scanhome does them in Ireland, One came with our house but he sells standalone systems, I saw one of the vent axia systems recently but I was surprised to see that they had used 110mm wavin sewer pipe as ducting.
The spiral galvanised duct supplied with ours varied in size from 100mm to 160mm, I guess this is to do with flow rates.
I would ask whether the ducting is metal or plastic.

    Hi Patridio,
Yes I think it is. Just seems a bit pricey but will keep looking.
Thanks CJ - will visit Scanhome and see what they come up with. Any idea of price?
Keep the advice coming. Very much appreciated.

if you want to save a few quid, you could source the components for the vent-axia seperately, and install yourself, or arrange for someone competent to do it.

the ducting, vents, controller and the unit itself are all available seperately, and you are probably paying a hefty installation charge.

    Hi Guys,

Firstly CJ, I phoned Scanhome..very helpful guy. As our house is large the unit we would need would be €5500-6000 from him plus all the ducting and then plus labour. So while it seems like an excellent unit and the guy was very very helpful - it will however be even more over budget than the current quote we have to hand.

Patrido, had thought of that but we are not DIY sort of people really and really don't have the time to spare either at this time of year due to our work and other commitments. I know our carpenters are very handy guys and could probably do it but they will charge a fair bit too for labour as it would be new to them. Our plumber has allowed about €2k for labour, which he says could come down. I think to have the job done right we will most likely go with him. I just thought some of you out there might know or recommend some ventilation or heat recovery specialists. If you do come back to me please.

€2000 for a day or twos work? You should be careful what you are paying your plumber :)

Yes I must agree with Jimmy here 2K seems like a lot of money to fit the ductwork.
It took two of us 1 1/2 days to fit the ductwork.
We had never fitted this type of system before and the learning curve was steep.
We are now experts ;), seriously though it is not hard to fit the system.
    Maybe we should fit yours:)
I had a look at the ventaxia unit and it looked pretty neat, the ducting seemed to be either Flat PVC or a box section PVC.

Thanks a mill for tip off Jimmy & CJ. I am speaking with the plumber today and I will def argue labour charges with him. We did feel that it was excessive. I hope to battle him down a bit. Up to now I have found that he was way cheaper with the solar panels, ufh and all plumbing (incl pressurized system). I think I will manage to talk him round...hopefully!! Thanks a million again for the tip off though as we really had no idea on how long it would take to fit the system. Our house is rather large (4800) so I guess we would have to allow 2 and a bit days max for him to do it.
Keep you posted on progress. Glad you like the ventaxia system CJ! Cheers!
