    1) Tele2 offers unlimited calls to GEOGRAPHIC numbers 6pm to 8am and weekends for a fixed fee of under 8 Euro. You need to hang up and redial just before an hour is up or else the normal charge of about 1.5c p.m. applies, but you really can use phone all night from 6pm to 8am this way.

    2) 189x numbers are NOT geographic. But most major towns have geographic (01, 061, 021 etc) internet numbers for Eircom. I havn't tried the old IOL and Indigo numbers. These numbers used to be published about 10 years ago, but I can't find them on web now. I had a list from doing Server installs about 8 years ago.

    3) The Geographic Internet numbers probabily need a full subscription Account (which is usually cheaper than for example "Flat Rate 25").

I've tested this and there are no limits. Two pages of phone bill with 061 xxxxxx Internet number and 0.00 charge.... Analog dialup.

    On a related topic:

    ISDN

It's about time ISDN users had option to ditch one channel for phone and have it as an "always on" Internet connection. Doing tests lately the performance of one ISDN channel (64k each way full duplex) using internal ISDN "S" bus "network card" (the ISDN modem is really the wall box with all the sockets), is equivalent to nearly 90k of "analog modem" speed. The 50% increase above actual bit rate is due to (a) compression and (b) the zero errors of ISDN compared with analog.

Ping time is of course excellent.

A friend that has ISDN is going to change to Tele2 and test if this "free" Internet access works on ISDN too. If it does then he can use two channels when wanting to download giving an almost 180k dialup ("analog equivalent") speed. Of course the ISDN connect time is almost instant so it seems always on. He has Flatrate 25, so he can also save money by convert to an ordinary Eircom Sub.

If you are Tele2 "Free weekend and Evenings" package, it doesn't matter to call charge (zero for first hour, 1.5 c p.m. after, hang up and reconnect to get free again) which number you use.

    P.S.
I found that using the Geographic number and getting charged Tele2 daytime rate was 20% cheaper on bill than Eircom's billing of 1891 150 150 "low cost Subscription access".

I'm not sure why, except that Eircom charges always seemed more than my Dialler log whoud suggest they ought to be.

Euphony charged me for dialling O2's 01 internet number.

They either have a list of local POP's or else can determine voice/data calls.

I'm definately getting the calls for free 6pm 8am and weekends.

The Tele2 T&C do not specify voice calls, just GEOGRAHIC numbers, i.e. no mobiles, no 18xx etc etc, no 15xx etc

Isn't this amazing, the year 2006 on our doorstep and here we are trying to bring down dialup phone charges by trawling through indigo's old website for their dialup numbers. Mad.
You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of crap internet quality and ripoff prices. A journey into a hateful land of monopoly. Next stop, the €ircon Zone!

It makes sense when you are part of the 25% to 50% (depending on how you count) that can't get ANY broadband.

Hopefully Digweb arrives here next week.

To get effectively free Internet 6pm to 8am and weekends:

Just ring tele2 or go online.

    http://www.tele2.ie

    Ring 1800 928 455

Obvioulsy this is only of interest for thouse of us that can't get any form of Broadband (I don't count Satellite as BB as it is (a) Horribly expensive for 2 way, and (b) so long a ping time that no matter what speed you pay for the pings are similar to 1.2kbps packet radio.

Euphony have charged me for dialling O2's 021 internet number since Oct.'05 - does anybody have the username/password for the indigo/eircom dial up numbers above?

    Interesting.

I used be with Euphony and always got free "10 minute" dial up internet to the local o2 number.
I'd hang up at 9.59 and redial.

    Then I got broadband :)

    I don't think much of 9'59" . 59'59" is much nicer.

I has the Eircom Anytime package and was able to dial a local geographic number at no cost up to the time I got wireless BB in October 2005. I then tried to set it up at my son's hoouse, dialling the same number and he has been charged €60 for net calls.

    Can anybody advise ?

You mean a flatrate sub ?

its tied to your number , your son needs his own subscription from his own number to avail of it.

I had a flat-rate package that would have been tied to my own number. I then signed up for the Eircom talk package which gave free calls to geographic numbers, provided that the call did not last longer than 59 minutes.
I found a post on boards.ie that give me a list of numbers that came from the O2 page. Dialling these numbers resulted in a free call to the Net. I will have to check with my son but I think that the problem now is that he did not change to the username and password to log on to O2.ie
