Heat Treating Stresses

If a metal is machined just say something simple like bending it. Now there is going to be stresses on the material at the bend. If the piece is to be heat treated, will it remove the stresses completely or just lower them?

The term 'machining' usually doesn't apply to bending. Depends on the metal and the severity of the bend. Bending a 1mm thick sheet of aluminium with a 4mm radius bend of 90 degrees will cause fatigue along the bend which cannot be removed by heat treating. Annealing will reduce but rarely remove all of the stress induced by bending in most materials. Copper=easy to anneal etc.
