Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

this is taking the piss tbh. this forum seems to be viewed as a seperate entity to boards.ie, which it obviously isn't.
site-wide rules on the discussion of certain topics still apply here

i'm sure the majority of us use file sharing software and i'm not trying to start a debate on the morality of their usage... but blatent discussion of p2p apps such as this just isn't on.
    i'd advise editing your post.

    BitTorrent 4.0.1
Nothing illegal or wrong in discussin p2p apps. Like email, ftping and many other methods of file sharing you dont automatically assume that they are used for breaching copyright.

exactly, thats wot i was thinking, now directing someone to where they can get copyritted material would be pushing it!

Also, just so you know, downloading copyright protected music is totally legal. It's only when you share it that it's illegal. No one has ever been sued or prosecuted for downloading music.

    granted.
but if that's the case, then surely this thread would have been better suited to the comp/tech forum?

    and dublindude;
think before you post man... do the words "copyright protected" not suggest something to you?

No it's because they're only getting around to prosecuting uploaders now...

    And serial uploaders at that...

Downloaders will be prosecuted at some point

Downloading music is illegal... if you can show me any evidence to the contrary do tell...

Yeah I can see someone sending me a 4Gb dvd iso over email...

But we all know whats to be mainly found on p2p networks. And if the general rule is not to discuss p2p networks then you should respect it.

    Morpheus? Imesh?

eMule, Azureus, Soulseek, and The Hype Machine (google it) are all you need.

No, it's definitely legal (in Ireland, at least.) I've been researching file sharing for quite a bit (I run a torrent site.)

Can you show me any evidence which says it's illegal?

    ...

It'll be a very sad day when you can be prosecuted for listening to an MP3 online.

First of all i never said anything about downloading copywrited music. secondly p2p sofware can be a great source for producers/dj's to upload there mixes or upload original tracks they have made so i think i am well within my limits to talk about p2p software in this forum.

what dublindude is saying is actually true. Amazingly enough!
I read an article before which stated that it is not illegal to download copyrighted music but it is illegal to share copyrighted music. Which is a tad bit messed up!

Which is the best P2P app................SOULSEEK, no doubt about it. ;)

yeah i heard soulseek was good alright!!!

I think its a great tool aswell for producers to get new music heard!!!Not only can they get feedback from other people but they publish there music to a global audience which can only be a good thing!!!!!!!

How are people going to find your music if they don't know it exists?

I heard they were catching people using limewire to share, was this a rumour or what ?
Limewire just brings up alot of porn when searching

If you want to nitpick this isn't really the forum for discussing p2p software.
This forum is for discussing music related to the dance/electronic genre.
The thread title is also misleading if what i've quoted is true.
I agree with tman on this subject amongst other things.
Maybe he should be in line for a modship ?

I'm sorry, but that's bollocks. I don't know anyone who uses Soulseek for that.

I know of a few up and coming dj's on the uk scene that do it.
But I'd much prefer the usual stuff of visiting a website etc.
Seems more professional to me. If done correctly.

But as Anima said, how can they find your music if they don't know what to look for? Unless you give your mp3's fake filenames.

for music soulseek is def the best. u gotta keep track of wot u are downloading though, ive recently just started to group my d/l's by ep title and yr etc otherwise they go all over the shop!

i use the chatrooms on soulseek to eh....chat about music and stuff.
I always see people in there promoting their own music and mixes, more often thou you see people promoting websites that host mixes.

    |Well theres lots of diffrenet music genre rooms on slsk, house, trance, hardcore etc.. ya jus go into a room of wateva style ur into & post ur stuff in the room, ppl dont usually mind, or if sum1 is u/l from ya u can ask them to check out ur stuff, i doubt much ppl wud mind taking 5 mins or so out of there time to listen to it.

i just searched this via the search forum tool, i just had imesh v6 and it messed up y lappy a little and quite frankly im uneasy about the security issues involved in using it, just out of interest which do you guys feel is the SAFEST P2P file sharing programme.

again sorry for "bumping" this post as the case may be, (i went to search the comp/tech forum 1st)

    BitTorrent 4.0.1
i've used bearshare, soulseek and Bit Tornado. I've never ever had a security concern with Soulseek. Bearshare on the other hand....... i don't use it anymore cuz its such a bogus application. I have a few concerns about Torrents as a whole due to the way they really bog down your system but security wise i can't complain about Torrents.

I use Azureus. I wouldn't go near Limewire, iMesh, or Kaza. All of them are full of spyware and adware.

my votes for limeware. its served me well thus far.
