You'd walk from Dublin to Galway in less than half that time.

    WTF are they doing? .

Im currently waiting on some stuff from the states and it also reads something like your track and trace above.

Im in Dublin and live beside the mail centre and local distribution hub but yet after arriving in the country so far its gone from the mail centre,up to portloaise, back to the mail centre and now out to sandyford for delivery(*bear in mind sandyford is absolutly nowhere near me nor is it covered by my delivery hub)

Has anyone any ideas to whats going on with them?

Took a month to get a letter out of the country. I Posted a letter to the US in early October but it only arrived last week.

Got an email back from an Post today. Apparently the chimps at the Tralee office couldn't make out the address (well now there are 12 letters in the name of my town, and how could they ever possibly be expected to have heard of a town a whopping 10 miles away  )
So long story short, my package is now gone back to England, and I have to go contacting the company that sent it all over again. Dammit anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭galwaydude

anytime i have to post something important i just use registered post. Its expensive but relying on an post to provide is reliable service is surely not asking for much is it

Letters seem to be ok for now but any packages then your screwed as they sent to port laoise and then the local sort office first. Someone should print this thread off and show the managment of an post.

And they would then exclaim "Some people complained on an internet forum. Oh well - Tough, you've no other option but to use us", (cue maniacal laughter...)

Hey Sparky, if you have a Royal Mail tracking number you can enter it into the track 'n trace thing in www.anpost.ie
I'd be prepared for about 7 loop the loops and a couple of u-turns around the midlands in the tracking if it has been lost for that long though. A friend of mine ordered some ink/blanks discs n' stuff in September which was sent by non-regged mail from 7dayshop.com in England. Nothing has turned up since and with no tracking she might as well have set fire to a couple of 50 euro notes.

Yeah I also find them cra... I ordered a package from the UK, it was sent on the 1st and I only got it today.
A friend of mine who used to work in AnPost reckons that if a parcel is heavy it will be delayed because (and I'm sorry for saying this as I might get Killed) the women in AnPost won't lift anything heavy!!! Men won't do it unless it's written in there Job description!!!!

Think I might apply for a Job there:p

actually its heavy, about the weight of 6 kg approx.
i wouldnt mind the waiting if it was a personal package, but since im a ROI service agent for these propress machines, i have one customer getting very impatient, im thinking of asking propress to send another package over by DHL instead, i dont care if its £30 but it sure as hell doesnt make me wait 4 fcuking weeks.

btw i want to add, when i was in NY i posted a post card 1 week and a day before we were due to go home, i was in las vegas LA and back to ireland and the card arrived 2 days after i came back
Great eh, no problem with the US postal service as it was marked the next date after i posted it.
id say it spent a few days in the sorting office because it had a good story on the front about an italian in new york

"i asked the lady in the cafe, do she fock on the table, cos i had only a knife" :D

    Hi

I know there is a thread going on about the state of an post deliveries of late but i was wondering has anyone noticed packages and parcels coming through faster to Ireland since the so called strike was averted

Bought goods for my sons santa presents off e-bay ,goods were shipped from Newtown abbey Northern Ireland on the 15th november

I have been in touch with the seller (very helpful) and he is going to look into it from his side
Would i be fairly confident in saying that some worker in the an post sorting office is sitting on my packages to eat his lunch every day ?
Eventually i presume ? I hope they do ,otherwise i have a very disapointed little boy on xmas morning .I even ordered in advance to ensure i wouldnt have a last minute postal panic

would be grateful if anyone could let me know if the post has speeded up in any way in the past week

    thank you

Found it a little faster lately and an average turn around of around 10 days -14 days now as opposed to 3 weeks (but this would be from England so dont know if Northern Ireland is different!)

Packages from Play, Sendit and Amazon are back to their usual 5 - 7 days now.

    Hi guys

Has anyone had any experience receiving USPS Global Express Mail parcels recently? According to the track and trace my parcel has been hovering over the atlantic since last Friday... I'm assuming that no-one has scanned it coming into Ireland and that it's lying in some sorting office somewhere.

Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence as to how long I'll probably be waiting for my package? I'm not naive about these things... I know that An Post is quite slow these days... so much for 3-5 days  7 days and counting!

    Thanks for your help!

    Mike

Ive used usps glabal express recently, like you mentioned mine also seemed to be stuck over the atlantic for the weekend(it was posted on a thursday) but was updated on the tuesday as being in portlaoise,i recieved it on the thursday of that week.

I didnt get stung for customs either and the item was marked at full value(1200euro)

    Here's wishing and hoping!!!

    Thanks for you response!!

I got stung for 88 euro on a package marked $400 + $60 shipping. To add insult to injury it took 8 working days to get here by global express mail
Ah the luck of the draw I guess - I think global priority mail from the states is a better option if available.

About 14 years ago I posted a card to a friend while on my way to work at 5:30am to another part of Dublin (was living at home in North Co Dublin at the time). At 2:30pm I had a phone call thanking me for the card! I was pleasantly impressed with a service that then had dramatically improved.

I notice in the last 3 years that its dramatically deteriorated. For example sometimes my bills are so late that the payment date is the next day (though I don't know if they genuinely have been posted on time). Birthday cards etc are taking a week to transmit from Dublin to Cork and vice versa. Simple posts even within a 10 mile radius now suddenly are taking as much as 4-5 working days.

Well, I'm sweating on a delivery of essential computer parts from Komplett and used An Post as the courier option when ordering them yesterday. The site claims that with An Post that it's a four day delivery timescale, this close to Christmas and An Post's track record indicates to me I'll still be waiting for the goods in the new year.

In fairness play always takes around a week.

Well... my 7800GTX just arrived from the US via USPS Global EMS... I paid for 3-5 days by ended up getting 12 days. An post had the package for 7 out of the 12 days!!!

To add insult to injury I had to pay €81 in VAT and duties.

    I'm not amused.

    Ah that sucks.

I wanna get hold of a 3700 clawhammer and it's cheapest in the states but not if i have to pay another 50 euro in duties.

Tbh, it really is discouraging me from shopping online outside the EU. Much prefer to shop in my own language than use my pigeon french and or german to find bargains...

Just wondering, how's people's post been in the post-Xmas period?

I've had two deliveries since Xmas, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. I'm still waiting on my ticket for the FA Cup on Sunday in Leicester to come, it was posted in London on Dec 16th... Have to pick up a replacement at the ground which is ok to a point, but I'm also waiting for my ticket for Liverpool-Spurs to come (posted around the same time) and that needs to be here by next Friday.

Oh, went home to my mother's house the Thrsday before Xmas, there's a letter waiting for me from the builder of my house. Posted in January 2005, arrived early December...

I posted an item in the GPO (a laptop for repair) to the UK on the 17.12.2005
Yesterday, three weeks later, when it had not arrived in the UK I rang the An Post Customer helpline with the tracking number looking for an explanation. They apparently put it in the wrong bag???? I paid 38 Euro 21 cent for SDS delivery with additional insurance up to 700 Euro and some stupid fool put it in the wrong bag...... They are offering to refund the postage to me but are not willing to offer compensation for screwing up. I was sending it to London to have a LCD backlight replaced- it was working perfectly other than a dodgy backlight- if there is one thing other than the backlight faulty on it when it eventually gets there though, I swear An Post can see me in the Small Claims Court......

Ordered a phone online from o2 last saturday, it was out for delivery tuesday with An Post Parcel or whatever they're callin SDS these days. I expected it to take more than 1 workin day to get here. I wasn't home so i ended up hanin 2 go and collect it anyhow.

I can honestly say I've had little problems with An Post. It could be because I'm in a smaller city (Limerick) but that said, all our post is sorted in Cork for some odd reason. I order something from play.com, it is generally about 5 to 7 workings days, and considering it goes from Jersey to the UK to Dublin to Cork to Limerick, it's not too bad. Course, there is no need for the Cork part there....
