Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

just saw a yeovil player wearing a green and white hat. almost like a tiny wooly hat. tried finding a pic but cant.

i didnt think this was allowed but obviously it is. maybe this is the start of a new trend amongst footballers!

I remember seeing a few outfield players wear a hat... think it was mostly in foreign leagues though.
If it allowed, I'm surprised it hasnt been brought in.... more sponsorship opportunites and all that...

There was some defender for Macclesfield who used always wear headgear, like a bandana.

There is also a Pakistani ref who wears his turban during a game (though Im open to correction on Pakistanis wearing turbans, but Im sure you get my point).

One of Boltons african lads wore one last season and ref tod him to take it off, in the PL its fairly strict but in France and stuff they play a "how many sponsors can you fit on a jersey" game so imagine its ok over there once it has a sponsors logo on it.

Yeah that was Sodje. He always wore it. I also seem to remember that Savo Milosovic wore a bandana on the odd ocassion in his younger years

Can't imagine that being practical for players though. Heading would be next to impossible.

Re hats keepers can wear hats so I can't see why the same oesnt apply to outfled players.

They should be banned though, along with long sleeved jerseys, tights, gloves and tracksuit bottoms, all of which promote limp wristedness.

It's Sodje alright, I was talking to the Crewe coaching staff when he was with them a few years back. He's the only player in the league with permission to wear it, it has to do with his religion.

He changes the colours to match the kits afaik.

    i can't think of a reason why someone couldn't wear a hat,
    especially a wooly hat.

Maybe they could have a microphone hidden in there!

Sounds like something Chelsea will be accused of soon, maybe Carvalho has a radio system hidden under that hair of his!

I think that was pascal Chimbonda of wigan but i'm not too sure. If my memory serves me right he was even wearing wooly gloves on the opening day of the season!!

Some Chelsea player (think it was Diarra) came off the bench recently with gloves and short sleeves. I've seen it a few time and it always confuses me.

Yeah I think you're right. I seem to remember Paul Jewel being the Manager in question.

this seems to be common enough... Sissoko was at it as the Pools last Euro match.
Guess the hands feel the cold more..

Presumably the hat would have to match strip colours but otherwise it should be ok. FIFA seem to be very fussy about that stuff nowaday. What would we do without them!

Didn't some Nigerian off InterMilan have his cornrows platted with beads in the colours of his club and when he played for his country he'd have green and white beads in. Ah what was his name again? Real ugly bastard anyway.

Anyone see emre at the weekend? he looked like he had a rain jacket under his jersey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

He had his socks well up past his knees, and long sleeve polo-neck under his jersey. The only bit of skin you could see was his face!

in first year of college we had a mate who always wore gloves with short sleeves which we found ridicolous(spelling?!) but he really took it too far when he wore gloves with short sleeves while playing indoor soccer!

i asked for that one! no he wasnt. we ripped the pi** out of him! but had little effect. anyone notice the number of players wearing davids like glasses at junior soccer level? not so much now but when he came out with them first, an awful lot of guys were wearing them.

the old faroe islands goalie used to wear a cap.he got kicked in the head early in his career and the doctors told him could do himself damage by playing on.he really wanted to continue playing so he started to wear a wooly cap to "protect" himself against further kicks....

Clearly the damage was already done.

I think the OP's question was aimed at outfield players rather than goal keepers. Everybody knows there is no problems with a GK wearing a hat in a game.
