Found this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_portal - but I'm still not entirely sure of what it is. Ah well, I best leave it alone 'til its up so.

no its a term its like a better homepage to a community.
for example on mine i have whos online a callender and polls all on one page.
