Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

PCI vs USB WNIC

All else being equal, is there any reason to choose a PCI wireless adapter over a USB one or vice versa?

The only thing I can think of is that a PCI one will add clutter to my PCI bus, while a USB one will add clutter to both my USBus and my PCI bus... I suppose PCI ones are neater as well, but obviously more of a hassle to add/remove should the need arise.

the handy thing about USB is that you can position the receiver wherever you want if you use a USB extension cable with it. You can get external antenna' for PCI cards, but they are generally more expensive.

Another thing to consider is the bandwidth of USB 1.1 is 12Mb\s and with a good "54Mb\s" connection you should be getting around 14 depending on the encryption you are usuing etc. So this minus the other devices on the but will mean a drop in LAN file transfer performance.

Ah, It's pretty hard to get a USB 1.1 802.11g NIC, though. I'm leaning towards getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833194001 which has a nifty external ant, so yay.

Of course I probably won't bother and just use a wired connection, because this PC is going to go in my living room near the router. Hmmm.
