    Hi,

I like to continue diving over the winter. I am a diver with Athlone SAC.
The club goes dead as regards sea diving over the off season. Nov-March.
I am centrally located and do some shore diving such as St.Johns Point, the Alastor wreck, Bridges of Rosse in Clare, Lough Ine, Doctors Rock Kilkee.
Has anyone got information on other dive sites I could try?
    Thanks any info much appreciated.

hi I'm in the midlands aswell, a handy shore dive for you would be molloughmore probably, as for the allastor?? is that the wreck near portaferry??I've dived that a few times and its pretty handy 30 metres but not much happenin down there
also do you know of any inland shore based dive sites in the midlands??
I'd be interested in trying some out!!

The only shore dive i know of in Mullaghmore is Thumb Rock and I personally don't like it. It is also a fair snorkel out. I have only dived it from a RIB. The Alastor is in Strangford Lough. I agree with you that it is not a great dive site, one trip over the winter would do me. It is sheltered in the lough so can be done sometimes when the west is too rough. Mullingar SAC live in Lough Owel north of the town but I only dive it on CFT courses or testing divers.
The viz is better than many other lakes in the midlands but nothing worth seeing. I have dived in other lakes and the river Shannon but boring...boring..boring...
