Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Eircom Wireless Network Problem

I'm getting terrible internet speeds on the house network whenever one of my flatmates computer's is downloading something.

There are three of us sharing an Eircom DSL connection over one of their Netopia wireless routers. It's only happened recently so I don't know if it's because one of the guys is using a new file-sharing client or something but it seems that whenever he's downloading, my internet connection goes to sh1t (30kbps or so, basically poor dial-up speeds). I've only twigged that it's related to something running on his machine because there was a power shortage recently that knocked off the other two computers leaving my laptop the only one still connected when the power came back on and with a 900kbps connection.

Is there anyway I can configure the router to split the connection evenly between the three machines?

I'm not familiar with Netopia - but I'd doubt it. Unless you throw in a PC to act as a gateway with Clarke Connect or something.. (Or sneakily, place b/width-limiting software on their PC's)..
If your on speaking terms, I'd say have a word with them.
If not..go with the above ;)

We're on reasonable speaking terms alright. Can you recommend any bandwidth limiting software? Might be able to get the two guys to agree to put it on their machines if I place it on my own as well...

Any file sharing program I've used has allowed you to limit the amout of bandwidth the application can use. Like a preference option or some such.

netlimiter has been recommended on these Boards before.
I'd go with azölf's solution to start with,as it's probably fairest all round and takes the least effort..
(You may also want to consider switching to a Linksys router in the future..it can throttle, and they're better quality )
