    ...in Kilkenny!

Formally called the Zoo, the club has always been an unoffically gay venue anyway!

Offical launch Friday December 16th and from Janurary onwards gay night every Friday night.

this the thing Brian Berry organised with the Morrisseys? Some one told me was happening on the 2nd .

Years since I been there and then it was either for late drink or cos free when with my sister etc. (Liked it as Lautrecs)

I love hearing about all these unofficially "gay venues" in kilkenny that seem not quite so whenever I happen to be there (don't drink much in KK) my gaydar must be shot.

Thing I wonder about is would ya end up constantly meeting ex's etc (or worse the guys your ex cheated on u with)

Wonder how sucessful this will be, at least it's on the least yobbish side of town, and ya can always slip down the other steps "accidently" to buy your porn : )

so gay stays underground in kilkenny :)

I saw there's a new one opening in waterford too, than main the natioanl papers (lol the Sun)

The new place in Waterford is a pub off Ballybricken (old Owls Nest Pub), not sure why ppl need a "Gay" pub....? (yes I'm straight). Is it for the benefit of gays who worry about intolerance or is it cos everyone knows 'where to go'. I'd worry about the latter as it offers a target for homophobes.

    Mike.

Allot of people, regardless of sexuality, like to go out on the pull. Gay bars facilitate that. At least you know that if you approach someone their not going to be terrible offended.

any number of reasons I guess including the two you mention

mostly same a sa straight guy would go to a regular pub, then sometimes cos its the music that's played, the "ambience", and being able to relax, go on the pull, touch your partner without being stared at etc etc

I do wonder if the Kilkenny idea will have any problem with "homophobes", place is fairly friendly and all but fair share of thugs/low lifes too.
I'd never a problem in Neros/Venue etc but maybe knowing "thats where they all gather" ...

I haven't been out in Kilkenny in about 2 years myself, went to the Zoo that night as it happens, kinda got a gay vibe alright.

Might head down, out of curiosity... see if I run into any familiar faces ;)

Where is this nite club ye call the Zoo? Is it the nite club part of Morrissey's or what? Was in Morrissey's during the summer, and had no reason to supect it being a gay venue.

It was the Lautrecs, the Flagstone wine bar, something else, then Zoo

Parliament street, opposite Rothe House, down steps, beside Cherie Lee(??) Adult Shop. Owned by same guys (ex My Little Funhouse) That own Morrisseys on Rose inn St (formerly The Mondrian, Jimmy D's take away)

Interesting. I might just turn up at this, once the monkeys let me out of my cage.

well apparently it's to have a "festive theme" (camp as christmas I guess) and people are asked to dress for the part.

    8pm opening !!

2 hrs of Karaoke hosted by a drag queen

Guess there has to be a drag queen or 2 (3 last time I heard) :(

The guy who is pushing it calls his venture "Alive and Loud and Out of the Closet". Quite a mouthful (Frankie Howard wink)

Its for gay, lesbian & gay-friendly people. (No bi's then, though I guess they've been known to be friendly with the odd gay)

I'm still debating whether to turn up to this or not. Anyone going?

Damn it i almost convinced a friend of mine who grew up in kilkenny and also has a car to head down to that club for the craic :P

...apparently everyone knows everyones business in kilkenny and it would of got back to his parents.

Man i really wish there was some new gay clubs in dublin and that arent so cheesey. Im finding myself going to more straight pubs and clubs at the weekend now.

to go or not to go

    now being pushed as gayfriendly

but when its arranged for the guy organising it to arrive in a white stretch limo you gotta worry

definitely not going on my own .... partly to avoid boredom (drag acts can be a drag), partly to avoid uncomfortable "bumping into" an ex (sad weally but such is life)
