Forwarding the Clearwire modem

I feel like such a newbie asking whether this could be done. I was previously with Eircom and had a router, and went in via the def. gateway into a browser, and login etc. Can it be done to forward ports on a Clearwire modem, or do you alter the programs you use seperately? Any help appreciated.
